Aye £11 for the part.
Got it all stripped out ready to whip the old one off, but what to do with my coolant? I'll fall asleep to the sound of it drip-drip-dripping away! What's the likelihood of me draining just enough from a hose at that point? Surely the whole lot aint gunna come gushing out?

Just tried to drain some out. I got more up my sleeve than in container. Will leave it 'til I got the new part and then get stuck in.
I think this may have been on the way out for a little while, just came a bit of a conclusion this afternoon. There's always been a certain amount of guff on/around the top of the gearbox, I assumed it was oil vapour from previous split breather hoses or oil sprayed up from the diff seals which I already had replaced.
I've never removed the air box to have a good look around that bit, but can see more clearly now what's happened and where and on a positive note, I also saw how easy the TT selector change is!

All rite mate y don't you put a bucket under the radiator and undo the tap like thing at the bottom of it and then once it's all drained and you put the car back together, u can reuse the coolant if it's clean and free of grit that way it don't cost as much. Thanx ian

Car is stuck out on the roadside so I'm not getting under it. The tap you mention don't work (tried it last summer doing my thermostat), so it's a hose off job and I don't have the patience, inclination or motivation required to even look at the f##kin car again today. :cry:

Had another go at it tonight.
Couldn't release the SAI hose from the kombi valve, worried I would brake something if I carried on?
Managed to drain some more coolant as I got the radiator tap undone at last (it unscrews and then pulls out!!!). Fluid looks like new still, so will be putting it back in. :wink:
However with the temp sender out, I can still see coolant that will no doubt pi55 all over me/the car when I take the bracket off - anyone got any ideas to drain that further?

jack the car up on the passenger side and all the remaining coolent will run to the driverside of the engine prosto no leakage hope this helps you stay dry

Ohh i had that problem not so long ago! that damn rubber seal... and the clown at the shop dident give me the correct washer with the part so once replaced kept leaking!!! had to go down and have words :grin:

All done and installed. Ran engine up, heater on full wack, pumping the heck out of the radiator hoses etc, will leave it 'til the morning and see about topping the old girl up again.
I was nearly dry, at most kinda moist perhaps :grin:
