I know, one of the nicest ive seen on ebay for a long time, wonder what'll it fetch.  Great car for a transplant project....  If i had cash i'd love to drop something better in it, wasted with a 1300!

how much is your mk1 worth do you think snoopy?

Isn't that question a no no on here, I saw a thread in the MK2 section sayin no more "how much is it worth?" questions, its worth as much as someone would want to pay etc etc.   Then again i suppose the other question is how much is it worth to you?...

I think it was more a subtle suggestion that perhaps good mk1's are worth a quite few k these days ;)

Ah right ok.....

3k + seems to be the average price for a good all rounder.. full resto's/rebuilds with enegine transplants ive seen for 6k + and concours, anything between 6 and 10!

Yeah that guides not too far off although i think sellers tend to go a little higher these days for non concours but VGC cars.  If i was buying again I would be happy to pay 3-4k for a nice example.  considering the condition that 1300 looks like its in it seems a little over priced.  i suppose people want some of the cash they invested back......

Are there some other pictures of yours on i could look at?

I did indeed.....

A fine example...... dont know what condition your mechanics are in but personally I value you it at more than 3k.... doesn't matter what i think though, you aint ever gonna sell her and i dont blame you.

Mechanicals are the best bit about it imo. Its been the most reliable car i have ever owned, (had it since 1990ish) always starts always runs, pulls like mad, does not smoke, or burn oil, never had the head off or anything main engine wise apart from belt changes.
Only thing engine wise was i replaced the sump in 1990 as the previous owner had stripped the sump plug. Clutch changed at 80K, gearbox linkages renewed as had a little play in them. 2nd gear synco fine. Had things like wheel barings, rear brakes all replaced (to give good pedal as drums go oval and adjusters fail) , new front discs and pads, exhaust and new oem suspension. Its had other bits and peaces but mainly trim and such like over the years its along time to remember everything

Defo worth more than 3k then imo.... just shows how great they are if looked after.  to be honest tho, sometimes abused ones can be surprising too... my first mk1 gti (the white one below) i purchased for a grand in 2002.  it was 90% solid body wise, really good paint.  Had like 6 previous owners and had been owned by people that kept it mint on the outside but forgot about the rest.  you opened the bonnet and it looked fooked!  had 140k on the clock, obviously been ragged to death, had to buy it new springs and a new linkage kit as gears were sloppy.  she still soldiered on with no fuss.  i saw it on ebay a couple of years ago in the same condition and had hit the 200k mile marker... i wish i kept it lol

Nice.  I always had a soft spot for the white ones as a mate had a Y plate back in ~91 when all our other mates had fords or vauxhalls.

Yeah she was a good old girl and i felt like i was the only person in the world with a white one, rare now and really stood out at night.  Was really easy to keep clean too!  I made a plan on how to spend 3k to make her perfect and instead took the easy option and bought the black one, 3 months later, DISASTER!!!! I saw it as a bad omen for selling it!

reading this post has realy made me regret selling my mk1 by that price guide i gave mine away for 1200 (with a extra brand new genuine vag bonnet as it had a slight dent in it)
i fitted a rebuilt 1.8 mk1 rocco engine and gearbox originaly 1.6 also on the car was quad lamp zenda front grill kamei small spoiler bbs body kit and it was a german rhd import stated on v5!!! whos mad
this is it, dont know if its still about on here is it peeps?
i miss the mk1 scene  best one iv experienced and will be hopefully returning in the near future

wow that is stunning... like a new car!... how on earth do you get 100k out of one without wearing out the seats! bit surprised theres no engine or boot pics???... also dont see the big deal about the 27 stamps when some of them are just "local garage"
Interesting price too, it really would have to be near perfect for me to part that sort of cash and to be honest i dont think i could... it would have to be locked up for the rest of its life, out for shows only and that would be done via a trailer after my last show trip!

He may have done what i did with mine and get a German passanger seat ie our drivers seat.
What got me was the carpets still have all the heal pads on
But the parcel shelf seems to suffer the edge sagging and theres a 'hole' blank in the dash along from the clutch blank thats not suppose to be there.
Like you i would be interested to see the boot and engine and if all the stickers are there and the boot felt etc.
I think he has spent alot on it by the look of it as i intend to do to mine but i find that half the fun.

But 10K  imo not worth it in silver, maybe if it had been in blue............. thinking more about it no still not worth 10K to me imo
