Title: strange noise

got a bit of a head scratcher... I have a strange noie on start up which runs for approx 1minute after the car has been started. only does it from cold and the noise does not change with engine revs and it's not the starter.  It's a 1.8t with an aum, has anyone experienced a similar problem?
