Its a tough one mk4's are a bit boring, mk1's have had their time and are long past their best before date, cabbys are cool for obvious reasons but are still mk1's.......


It has to be a mk1

but then mk2's are common as you like

Golf Match? me in my 8 valve would be more than a match for you, it aint what u got its how ya handle it! my mate had a 16 valve mk2 hes a decent driver but we could cane him in our 1.8 litre company car Cavaliers. U could have the quickest Golf but if ur a cr*p driver u sh*t it boy!

You're right................problem is both MK1_BOY and 87_PROJECT can drive these things fast...........been there and seen it.........

from a mk3 8v owner i can comprehensively say as a drivers car it is absolutely sh!te my astra turbo diesel pulls away from it

Mk3 8v beat Modulator in his mk2 16v. Wake up mate!!! modulator drives like a loony. Mk3 GTI should have been MK3 CL.

Everyone seems to think they are stirling moss on this site. I never said I was a good driver, I don't have to blow my own trumpet like certain members.

Fact of the matter is, The MK3 8V is heavy and the engine in it isnt up to the job, The 16V restored face to the range but if you want a real drivers car from the MK3 range you get a VR6.

I couldn't of said that better myself. Another thing , modulator drove my vr6 the other week and i was definately bricking myself.

I have beaten a mk2 8v in a race and apparently they are quicker than mine (mk3 8v).

Im getting a bit pissed off with this 8 valve is crap rubbish you all spout its a Volkswagen, its a Golf and like it or not they did badge it as a GTI.  So get over it.  I thought this was a website for GTI enthusiasts whatever the engine?
If u VR6 boys dont like it start your own VR6 forum after all I dont see any GTI badges on your cars!!!
Worst GTI jeez change the record lads!!  Right thats got that off my chest, NEXT!   :o
