Title: bent clutch arm??

Anyone think its possible to bend one? 
i did the flywheel conversion to a single mass clutch /flywheel back last year,
come to replace the clutch as it worn this year and everything is the same parts etc, same numbers. looks the same, but when installed the clutch arm fouls the pressure plate ?
took it all to bits to check i wasnt being stupid, noticed gashes in the metal, cleaned it up put it back tried again, exactly the same,  no gears can be engaged, clutch gets stuck half way down and goes hard and then press it further it bangs agains the pressure plate!  im baffled and ticked off,  need me golf back!

UPDATE!    going to unscrew the pivot point that the clutch arm clips into, and going to pack it out with washers so it sits a bit furhter up
