Title: 8v gti wont start

When i turn the key i get all the normal red lights and i can hear a fuel pump priming i think its the lift pump in the tank thats making the noise so the one under the car isnt making a sound and the car wont fire up so im guessing that is my problem. however i havent had a chance to investigate yet. before i do im wonderimg if its common for the fuel pump to fail or what else might cause this scenario so im not standing scratchig my arse for as long.

ive had my golf for 4+yrs now and until 6months ago id never had a single prob with it. but the last 6months its just one thing after the other im considering just burning it!  :evil:

I've got one too, have you tried the fuel pump relay? perhaps check the coil and ht leads and dizzi cap/rotor arm, rule those relatively cheap things out before you go replacing a fuel pump... oh and spark plugs too of course...!

ill check the relay and fuses 1st.

Because the a fuel pump isnt making a noise i am assumin that will be where the problem lies and not coil/dizzy cap & arm/leads etc but please correct me if im wrong on that one. im by no means an expert!!!

i noticed my alarm wasnt self setting so i put the jup leads on it and it burst into life which was most refreshing! i think my battery is on the way out but im good for now thanks for the response
