Hi guys,
Was gunna take off the throttle body (8v GTI AGG) last night at work using the quides on this forum.... anyway i decided to read the Haynes Manual (wish i hadnt) and it says I need to drain 1/4 of the coolant before i remove the throttle body??? I decided not to do it in the end because of this...
Is this correct?
Anyone fancy giving me a exact quick guide of taking off the throttle body for a clean..??

no you dont, just when you take the coolant hoses off the tb dont let them hang right down as coolant will leak, when i did mine i lost about 5ml + the bypassed the tb altogether by running the coolant hose straight to the header tank

ok thanks for that mate,
I will be getting a throttle body gasket aswell and maybe afew spare gaskets for future cleans... Are these gaskets cheap?? Eurocarparts??

I did one today on an 8V Cab as it happens.
I took the pipe off the top of the coolant bottle and the flange instead of the throttle body itself. This was just to make it easier.
Then I blocked up the flange with another bit of pipe and a bolt and none comes out of the bottle.
There is a multiwire plug underneath, three pipes to remove, I replaced one clip with a jubilee clip. Then carb cleaner and some motton cloth and it was shiny and idled properly!
