hey all
my car needs an mot i have herd as long as you have pre-booked your car you can drive it to the garage,,, is this true?? :undecided: plus the car has no tax.
-
I believe you can legally drive to a pre booked mot providing you have tax and insurance!!
-
wont to sure about the insurance because its invalid with out mot,,, av herd that many things i dont realy wont to risk it in case i get a jobs worth police man,,,,, its only 5 min drive away if that,,
-
You might be better off towing it then?! Or just go for it and hope? :lipsrsealed:
-
u are coverd to drive it to a pre booked mot as long as its taxed and insured and u can also drive it home or to a place of repair if it fails
-
If you have no tax then trailer it.

I drove a car, that I had just bought, home without tax once (because it was a Sunday so couldn't just nip down to the post office to get it), and sods law had it that I got pulled. I was apologetic and exaplined that I had just bought the car, showed him the reciept etc, plus the car was MOT'd and insured. Luckily the copper was understanding and let me go again
Is the car on a SORN? If not and the car is untaxed and on the road i'm pretty sure they'll be less understanding, I wouldn't risk it!

I thought you could drive to a pre-booked MOT without tax, as long as you pay up for insurance.
You won't be covered for anything but going to and from MOT station, and any pre-booked repairs.
-
Plus not being funny, but you need a valid MOT certificate to buy a tax disc
So I'd also agree that as long as you have insurance then you should be ok.
-
i know this is gonna sound lame, but....i was watching police camera action once and they said that you can drive it to the mot station without a problem. I drove my old series 3 landy to the mot station without and mot but i did have tax and insurance.

I would add that it would be a good idea to at least have the number of the garage on you, if not written proof of the booking. Bare in mind that if you have a long way to travel, or main roads you will be setting of ANPR all over the show.

Thanks to everyone who replyed,,,

Driving an untaxed vehicle to an MOT test
You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station as long as you have adequate insurance cover in place for the use of that vehicle.
This is also for vehicles being driven to and from a pre-arranged test at a Vehicle Inspection Check (VIC) test station, an approved weight testing station and reduced pollution test.

getting the mot sorted to day... the only thing is with it being the end of the mounth would they let me tax the car today and lose a mounths tax or would i have to wait till thursday being the 1st?
bank hol weekend prob not the best time to do this
-
I'm pretty sure with the tax that if you have a reminder you can go five days before the end of month and tax for the full six months. But if you have no reminder the tax will back date and you would lose the month. Cheers Deano
-
no u can tax it from the first of the mounth no matter what but it means u wont b ale to keep it on a road till the 1st
-
cheers pal,,,,,, just hope the mot goes well :undecided:
