this one has stumped me.
here is how it started...
gear change was crisp, changed clutch for vr6 jobbie and used 2L of fresh G/B oil (put strain on R/H engine mount at the time) and gear change went sh!te, fitted powerflex dogbone bush and all was very crisp again.. then adjusted the cable shift according to guide and shift went bad again, this only seems to happen when cold and gets better once things warm up.
perhaps i should have left the gear cable adjustment? (dont fix whats not broke?)
p.s changed G/b mount today but havent driven since (maybe cured? lets see)

definitely sounds like the cable needs adjusting mate, I know mine does since I've had it back form the clutch being done, I assume it's happening because it's bedded in etc
-
righty, will try that tomorrow then.. though the adjusting it the correct way couldnt be the correct way for the ay its set up now??? :undecided:

What gearbox oil you use?
I have an uprated dogbone on and I recently changed my gearbox oil for 80w90 (VW recommends 75w90) and I have now got identical symptoms as you, however after about 15min of driving the 1st and 2nd gear unstiffen. But I did not touch the cable adjustment at all.
My guess would be gear oil, however a dogbone fixed it, then it went bad after adjustment seems all wierd.

i used to suffer the same problem with stiff gears in 1 and 2. it would take about 15-20 mins of driving before it calmed down, proper annoying.. mine turned out to be the master cylinder clutch piston (i have invoice sumware) is ur clutch pedal responsive... mine was spongy and didnt release all the way back up...
also i topped up clutch/brake fluid...
since this fix over 2months ago. no issues wat so ever...

I have a similar problem in first but its stiff/notchie all the time any ideas

White grease on the linkage

i`ll try different gearbox oil i think.. as said, it does seem to clear up once warm so must be an oil issue due to the temperature of the oil viscousity?

Changed mine a while back could definately feel the difference

That was the first thing I did, did nothing...

sorry to dig this old one up but i am still having this problem. i have changed the gearbox oil to 75w90, greased up the linkages and also aligned the linkages many times. the only thing to try next is the master/slave cylinders.
which would you replace first?..
