Simple question, does the fan push or pull air?

It blows air to the rad (pushes)... if it didnt, it would be pulling the hot air away from the rad and blowing it on your engine.

See I thought that may be the case but then I thought it would be pushing air against the flow of air comming from the car moving forward.  I was just wondering as ill be replacing my fan and couling with a slimline fan soon so need to know which way to wire it.  Another simple question then, ive always wondered this... what are the flaps on the fan cowling actualy for? I don't have any on my car.

no, it sucks air through the fan and blows it on your engine. i.e., the same way air would flow if the car was driving forward ;)

I know, for some reason i always thought that to be the case as i didnt think it would be good to blow hot air towards the engine but thinking about it the fan would have a hard time if you were driving and the force of air was pushing against the fan..... good job rubjohnny is here to put things straight!  makes more sense now! sorry if i confusd the issue.  :embarassed:

Na no worries fella! I too was confused as ive been in the bay and felt the fan pushing the air at the engine, just never thought it would draw enough air forward to cool the Radiator.  Im looking forward to ditching my rad and cowling for a slimline version.

Does anyone know what those flaps are for on the fan cowling?

isnt it so that when the cars stationary the fan draws cold air from the front only and when driving the air from front can blow straight throuigh the flaps.....

that was my understanding aye! when fan is sucking away the flaps seal shut to prevent air being drawn in from the bay, but when driving along the flaps open to allow more airflow thru zee rad
