hi ppl,
i am after getting a mk4 gti to have bit of fun with over summer etc.. but cant decide what model to get, either 3 or 5 door and between the standard 2.0 gti or the 1.8 turbo, looking at 2002 2003 year.
i know the turbo is the faster option, but i know deep down ill prob sell it towards end of october,so would prefer something can sell that little bit easier come re sale time.
from experiance i sold my mk4 2.0 gti, pretty fast within a week. but had a 4motion and that took over 2 months to sell, i know mileage condition, colour can play a part in it.
so is the turbo a bit of pain to sell?? is the insurance that much more for a turbo that it may put people of buying them ??
thx for any help you could give, Mike

Just buy what you want and whats practical for you.

if you want resale value then you'll be looking at completely standard cars.. which are no fun at all. Try a mk1 cabriolet. Much more summer fun and you might even make a profit from it.

Insurance on the 2ltr will bring more people into the picture. I went for black, 3 door 2ltr as if suits my driving and that's the classic GTi look. I hear the 5 doors are easier to shift from a dealer friend of mine, I guess they appeal to families. I looked at quite a few turbos but they were all either ragged or battered. To be honest I wasn't impressed with the performace of the turbo either so couldn't see the point of the extra money. Driving fast around Nottingham isn't possible with all the speed cameras
