Hi
My mk2 has started making a grinding sound. It seems like it is coming from the alternator. I want to run the car with the alternator belt off, to check the alternator is at fault before gettin a new one. There is a belt below the alernator which i think is the power stearing belt. I need to get this off to get the alternator belt off. Does anyone know how to get the power stearing belt off and can i run the car with it off? I hope this makes sense.
Thanks in advance from Dean

Just had this with mine, ur not losing any water are you, run the car and check the water pump, mine sounded like this then the pump went, put a new one in, sorted

I did loose some water a few weeks back but i changed the expansion tank which seems to have cured it. The cam belt is being changed next week so ill ask the garage to check the water pump. Thanks

To change the cam belt they have to take the fan and PAS belts off... get them to replace them and check it at the same time, they should only charge you parts as they'd have to remove and refit them anyhow...

Cheers ill do that.
