Hi everyone right I need some help just went for a quick blast and at first it run fine and then when I put my foot down it picked up nice and fast and then as sone as I let off the accelerator to change gear and then put my foot back on the accelerator and it was as if there was no boost, so I slowed down and then I booted it again and then the same thing happened, so I went home and checked all the boost pipes and intercooler pipes and there doesn't seem to be any leaks, and the other thing that I thought was a bit wierd when the car was driving normal the turbo and dump valve is loud And when the boost drops it's realy quiet. Does any one no what can be causing it could it be the n75 valve? Thanx ian

you best off firstly in getting it scanned with vag com to see if your showing any fault codes and then it'l give you an idea where to look

Yer mate I no but finding any one near me with vagcom seems to be coming up a blank just have to pay a garage I think

he pops on ocassionally so may do maybe worth sending chris a pm also  give r-tech a call to
-
I foned r- tech earlyer and they said check the new intercooler and all the pipes but by the time I done all that it was to late to ring them back so going to try them again in the morning see what they say
-
post back and let us know how you get on

I was sat next to ben when you called, i was relaying the info to him. Which intercooler kit have you put on? My money is still on a leak in the intercooler somewhere. Double check that you've put the pipes on the n75 the right way round (bottom in TIP, boost feed from charge pipe to in the side, control to actuator on the top).
Sounds a bit like it's detected the leak and thrown you in limp mode. The noise you can hear is probably the boost being thrown down the exhaust.. but you will probably notice a change in the noises anyway from changing the intercooler pipework.

thanx for the reply chris (topher). its one of the ones off of ebay (£195) the same one my mate has on his blue mk4 with the k04 turbo on it. and all the pipes are fitted nice and tight and put back were they were taken off from. is there any way of testing the intercooler for leaks? and the other thing is would it stay in limp mode untill i switched the key off or just untill the ecu stops detecting the problem? because all i did early is slow down and then it went back to normal
-
yeah sometimes if you leave it 30 seconds or so it sorts itself out
someone down by you is bound to have a smoke/pressure tester, i think most places charge 20 - 30 quid to do it. You can also make your own with a bit of ingenuity and a bicycle pump. If you get stuck we have one.

if there is a boost leak will it show up a fault code?
-
ive got that intercooler, i found a few imperfections in the welds on mine that would have deffo leaked as i blocked one side off and blew down it in water and it leaded, i gave all my pipes to a mate and he re-welded them all to be sure on rest.
-
I checked all the welds this afternoon wen I was checking for boost leaks and they all looked fine. Some thing in my head is telling me n75 and when I was at r-tech last Wednesday for all my up grades nick said that the n75 won't last much longer and I should change it so maybe it's naffed but ille get it checked for fault codes first
-
maybe MAF playing up? deffo need get codes checked and go from there
-
The other thing is it doesn't do it all the time because I booted it earlyer on the way back from the inlaws and it went like it suposed to and the as soon as I stopes at the lights and set off again in started playing up again, so shorly if it was a boost leak it would play up every time I put my foot down?
-
2:1 odds its 17705 with an outside chance of 17965 at 5:1
if you have vagcom, and a modified 1.8t, become familiar with those two codes!
-
and yep, even after that description i'd be looking for leaks first.
-
Ok mate ille have another look at all the pipes tomoro to be on the safe side and what are the two fault codes u listed?
-
Just had the car checked over by amd Essex and there was no fault codes and no boost leaks, so time for another trip up to r-tech to see if they can solve my problem

How did AmD check for boost leaks?
-
They done a smoke presure test.
-
have you got a new diverter valve...when mine went it was crap at pulling away, after stopping ....just a thought....

If u mean dump valve yes I got a new one Monday
