I’ve noticed that the Plastic GTI grill (with the red lines) sticks out about half a cm more on the passenger side than the driver’s side. I noticed the bonnet didn’t seem quite shut above the passenger lights, but on closer inspection, (with the bonnet open) it would appear that the plastic grill is aprox 4 to 5 mm further out than the other side. It looks to be secure and doesn’t feel loose.
Is this normal? Is it due to how the lights are adjusted for UK driving? If not will it be a simple adjustment to correct?
I thought I’d get advise of you guys first before speaking to my ‘friendly’ dealer.
Many Thanks

Checked mine and everything is flush. Get it checked out at the dealers, I would say.
-
Yes, all flush and aligned on mine too - see dealer.
-
so mine is 4 or 5 millimeters out on the passenger side as well... never noticed it until you mentioned it ;) neighbours must have thought I'd lost it ...measuring bits of my car with a ruler!
-
Hehe! Sorry.
This car has turned me into a perfectionist, I suppose 4 or 5 mms is nothing to sound the alarm bells over.
My neighbour commented upon my odd behaviour this afternoon.

my Mk5 GTI was an early one and had some shocking uneven panel gaps! the dealer made such a hash of fixing the first one I left the rest...my first mk 6 gti (rejected) was much better, but still had one or two questionable ones...my current mk 6 is almost perfect.. bar this one you mentioned...I'll leave it well alone :)

My car is perfect both inside and outside. The first car ever.
I feel very lucky so far. Let's hope it lasts.

Interesting. If you don’t mind me asking did you reject your first mark 6 due to these gaps? I was considering taking my car to the dealer to correct it, I thought it would be a simple bonnet adjustment
-
no, the black one was rejected due to a erratic idle problem..car would sometimes rev itself when stationary...after 6 months the dealer still hadn't been unable to solve it so I demanded a new replacement and ended up with a nice candy White one... which feels better built than the black one which was an early mk 6 gti

First check that the bonnet edges are 'square' with the front wings and the gaps are exactly the same on both sides. If you still have this 5 mm difference with the front grille, then it should get adjusted quite easily. Get the bodyshop to do this and not a mechanic in the service department.
-
Yeah there is a very slight difference with the bonnet edges, on each side.
Thankyou  I’ll talk to the bodyshop people tomorrow.
Otherwise everything is A ok with the car. Build quality bar this slight issue feels great.
Cheers

Great. Problem solved.
Glad to be of help.
