Title: Xenon Kits???
Post by: Harris GT TDi on 22 March 2010, 23:12
Hi Guys,

I have just bought a 56 plate GT Tdi and I have been searching for Xenons kits? I read on another thread that a VW upgrade is around £1000........ :(

I put aftermarket kits on my old BMW 328i Sport Coupe and my 530i Sport and never had a problems.

Whats the feedback on here as the 6K H7 kits I have seen are around £70???

They look sh*t and blind other people. If you're going to go for something go for the real OEM xenons at around £350 on the bay.

How do they blind other drivers if the beam direction is setup correctly?

Has anybody fitted kits like this on here before? Pics?

I don't think you can adjust the beam pattern because the light is a xenon fitted into a halogen housing.

Ah right,

when I had the 6K H7's fitted on my previous BMW's nobody ever flashed me and everyone always said how awesum they looked. Much better visibility too.

If your going to do it make sure you get projector lenses. Putting 6k HIDs in a housing designed for standard bulbs is a big no no as the light pattern just wont work as its not designed to have that sort of light coming out of it.

As long as you have these, I dont really have a problem with them. Might even get it done myself and get some 6k ones thrown in. Id beg anyone to spot the difference.

Yeah, that MK5 Golf has had the 14k ones and looks like a chavtastic bag of sh!t lol

Note you will need a special adaptor for the MK5 Golfs to hold the bulbs in place which cost an extra £15.

Yes agreed I wondered why it had 14K on as 6K looks the nuts. That is what I had on my 328i Sport coupe and my 530i Sport.

Thanks for the info on the adapters.

also they are illegal if you dont have a self leveling sensor on the rear axle (as factory fitted xenons have), search the forum for some heated debates!

bullsh!t, theres no way you could justify the cost of retro fitting a self leveling sensor, you don't know what you're talking about.

What??

How can you possibly comment on what I could "justify" spending my money on.

I will check with my local dealer today and see what they say so I can make an informed decision.

I started this thread so I could gather advice not be preeched to by some total C##k!

f**king hell 2007GTI, who took the jam out of your doughnut?

He is correct in that the law requires self levelling sensors, however you wont fail an MOT if you dont have them. Im a bit undecided as to how well this levelling sensors work, I've seen on some cars they are total over kill and actually do more harm than good. Any slight bump and the lights are all over the place.

Just go for the real deal because you can't put xenon's in reflectors and you won't be able to link levelling sensors to aftermarket HID kits. The oem xenons go for around £350-£450 on the bay.
