Title: Thoughts on this boost gauge/anybody running one? - *WIRING QUESTION PAGE 2*
Post by: Waffs1984 on 22 March 2010, 19:04
Hi all,

Thinking about this gauge, £30 with all fittings ain't a bad price, plus i quite like the idea that its just a blank black face when the engine is off...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SMOKED-TURBO-BOOST-GAUGE-FIESTA-ESCORT-FOCUS-RS-TURBO_W0QQitemZ350330149322QQcategoryZ72205QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DDLSL%252BSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BIEW%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D10%26po%3D%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8679596277556753123

Any thoughts/comments - i get a remap on sat and would like to get this installed asap afterwards to kee an eye on things

Cheers,

Matt.

Rich - yeah i thought people would say that but that means getting a newsouth and theyre twice the price! I'm planning on running it in a standalone gauge pod fixed to the little airvent on top of the dash by the windscreen so it won't be too close to the other clocks to notice. I may get a newsouth in a year or so's time but just wanted to know if it was worth a punt?

Dub-77 - Good to hear someone is running one! I don't mind it being in bar - in fact i prefer it as its metric lol!  How did you wire yours up, i assume you have to wire it up so it comes on wit the ignition electrics? Whats the difference between it being lit in the day and at night?

where you gonna mount it??

If you look at Jordys picture im gonna mount it in a gauge pod that is fixed to the small circular vent directly below where Jordys pillar pod is. I saw a video of some guy on youtube running his like this and it look ok. Havn't got the spare cash to shell out £20-odd extra for a pillar mount - got the gauge and mounting pod for £31 delivered next day so that'll do me for now!

I might be tempted to write a guide when i install it as we all like reading through picture threads

I think i have confused some people with my rubbish explanation lol!

No i'm getting a standard 52mm gauge pod, like in the lower right of this picture (from google images)...

http://www.stackltd.com/images/aux_g_mounts_top_box.png

...and then i'm mounting it on top of the small circular vent (~1.5" round thing) is on top of the dash.

Wiring Question!

I have three wires,

+12v ignition
ground
dash lights

Are all three of these available to tap into from the headlight/dimmer switch by the drivers door?

Cheers,

Matt.

Just been looking at boost gauges on ebay, found one that looks nice and seems to match the dials http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270550607145&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

But what i want to know has anyone done a triple gauge pod thats not pillar mount, but more like the Focus ST (i will wash my mouth out later) style one.

ignition - removes the smoked screen when you turn the car on (you can tap into the feed for the headunit for this)

earth - self explanatory

dash lights - again, self explanatory (tap into grey/blue wire on the back of the dimmer switch)

Look up under the dashboard at the fuse panel. You will see several threaded connectors here. The stud marked 75x supplies SWITCHED 12v ie when igntion is off no power and ignition on power . The studs marked 30 (either one) will supply CONSTANT 12v. You can pick up a ground on the stud marked GND in the picture, that secures the fuse box to the bracket. Like wazzzer says grey/blue on the back of dimmer switch for dash lights

Just a quick question, where does the guage get the info from about boost pressure? What does that connect to?

Just a quick question, where does the guage get the info from about boost pressure? What does that connect to?

If its like mine or jordys it has a boost sensor which takes a feed from the vac line and then sends info to gauge but on the needle gauges the vac goes direct to the back of gauge.

Cheers guys! I knew about the blue wire on the dimmer switch from a Vortex thread i read lastnight - this also means that the guage should dim with the rest of the lights when you use the dimmer switch right?

Hopefully i'll just tap into those screw terminals then. Need to pop by a Halfords on the way home to get some more vacuum line as the length that was supplied with the gauge was not long enough

For the record i have fed the vacuum line via the wing (as i do believe Rhyso has done) using the rather large grommet in the door shut just below the hinge.
