Title: Brake disc help !!!!!
Post by: Wisey on 21 March 2010, 19:29
Am trying to take off the front passenger side brake disc. But who ever put the disc on last time rounded the head on the screw that hold the disc on  so i drilled the head of the screw.

But the disc just doesn't want to come off  :undecided: tried giving it a bash but still aint playing . The caliper is off, so is it just that wee screw that holds the disc on or am i missing something? Or do i just need a bigger hammer and hit it harder ?

Hi
You will need to drill more than that. OR
Soak it with plus-gas. Drill a small hole to hammer in a flat screw driver then unscrew the rest of the screw.

Depends how the screw goes in, you could of drilled behind it, tapped the hole and used a bolt/screw of approriat tap to extract it out in a clockwise fashion, thats providing you can get behind the screw.

Otherwise buy a screw removal kit, or screw/bolt extractor which can be picked up quite cheap.

Halfords do a the Laser sets, screwfix also stock a kit:

Have a look around, they are called "extractors" or screw/bolt extractor kits, just look out what size you need, as I know on the polos it was a M4 CS screw, not sure what it is on the golfs.

The head is already been taken off

And i have drilled enough cos you can see the there is enough off the screw so the disc should just come off

Should the disc come off easy or could it be stuck on if its been on there for a while ?

Should come off easy, not a rust issue? If so try heating it up with a blow torch and letting it cool off, the expansion should loosen the rust, just watch out and don't burn the brake cable etc... Otherewise

You know it makes sense

Hi you just need to spray the center bit of the disc with some wd40, give it some time to work in then wack it off with a hammer, it will eventually come off!!!
