Title: Heater Matrix

I know this is a subject that goes round & round but I have just called V.W they tell me the mod had been carried out under Recall 1997.
I have got smelly steam coming out of the vents and a wet passenger footwell !!! Heater Matrix !!!!
I told V.W this and they don't want to know said it is my problem !!! Anyone else had this ???

Definately sounds like a failed matrix.
Have a look under your bonnet and find the two water pipes which pass through the bulkhead behind the engine. There should be a valve in each of these pipes a few inches before they pass through into the car. If these aren't present the mod was never carried out on your car.

Even if you have had the mod done that doesn't mean your matrix won't fail. They do corrode in the end and will require replacement through wear and tear - your problem I'm afraid, unless you can prove this has happened because the recall wasn't carried out :-\
