Title: What are the differences?

Hey,

What sort of differences are there between the 1.6 and 1.8 gti engine mounts and beams etc.?

Are they the same? I.e. is a gti just a driver with a 1.8 engine, lowered sus and a different interior?

No... A Gti has different clutch brakes cam shaft injection system exhaust wiring loom(s) ecu radiator air box basically with the exception of the chassis and body shape it's completely different...

Basically what I'm meaning are the subframes the same, rear beam etc.?

I'm looking into doing a mk4 1.8t conversion and read that it can be dropped into a 8v gti with not 'too' much work.

Would this be same if it was a 1.6 driver?

Front subframe's the same. 

Front brakes aren't much different.

Wouldn't want to leave OEM 8V brakes on with a 20VT.

surely you'd want a rear disc conversion, a GTI rear beam would be a start! 20vT with rear drums? I appreciate rear brakes dont do a great deal but any upgrade in braking performance is better than nothing.

Also the fuel system, tank and lines, 1.6 is Carb.

Thats cool cheers. Yeah have got some G60 brakes to go onto it.
