My mate has recently bought a Mk5 Golf, he says it it a GTTDI but all the badges on the car just say TDI
I have a 2.slow Mk4 and he can barley get away from me, it seems quick but not GTTDI quick?
What engines come in the mk5's and what bake horse do they run at?
Im pretty sure his car should kill mine but doesnt seem much difference...
-
Could be a 140? They are not very quick
0-60 - 11 secs
0-100 - 35 secs ( )
-
Yep, if its a 140 your 2.0 will keep pace with him.
http://www.letstorquebhp.com/fwd.asp - take with a large pinch of salt
Volkswagen Golf GT Tdi 140 (MK5) - 0-60 = 10.65s 0-100 = 34.79s
Volkswagen Golf GTi 2.0 (MK4) - 0-60 = 10.21 0-100 = 33.33s

Really?! i get stick for my car having a GTI badge! why the hell does that have a GT badge?!?!
now thinking about it i think he did say it was a 140brake
-
I'd say that the TDI isn't working properly
Even when mine was standard I'd leave 2.0's for dust
-
Its GT badged because its considerably slower and less speced than the GTI which is why people give the 2.0 8v a hard time as its also considerably slower than the 1.8T GTI yet has the same badge. The 2.0 is more of a GT car. Its only called a GTI in the UK and in Europe its called a "Highline". I think VW think they could sucker people into thinking they were buying a fast car by sticking a GTI badge on the back.
Im not knocking the 2.0 you get all the spec of a GTI and the looks just without the speed or the insurance cost which is why I had 1 before the MK5.
-
ah right, im still slightly confused, i get stick for being slower than a 1.8 20v T i get that
BUT
why does the GTTDI(140) not get stick for being the slower GTTDI as i presume there is a quick one?
Just as the MK4 had the two GTTDI models 130brake and 150brake? but they where both respectivly quick

Yes, there is a 170 one.
Ermm I think because no one on here as a 140 :D
-
yeah there are the 140 and the 170 versions
As Alan says - not many derv MK5 derv owners
And I'd give them stick anyway as they can't keep up with me

Is he positive it's the 140 brake one? Towards the end of the mk5 run (in Ireland at least) they slapped the GT TDI badge on practically anything but the bottom spec optionless 90 brake ones. Maybe he has a 110bhp TDI? I know that they slapped GT badges and front bumpers on the non turbo 1.4 mk5s in mid 08 here.

pretty sure he says its a 140brake and it doesnt have any GT badges on it and if it was a 90 or 110 my 2.slow should murder it lol
-
Just hope he doesnt map it lol

The 2.0Gt Tdi in the Mk5 guise was called GT for the trim level and specification it had, because it was the top spec diesel for a long time (dual zone climate / follow me home lights / auto wipers etc..) and originally was only available in 140bhp format. (So Gt in spec not performance) Later, the 170bhp Gt version came out and I think the 140bhp trim cars were rebadged 'Sports' to avoid the confusion

Hey Smitty,
Your mate might have the 110 BHP TDi model,
I have an 08 Golf TDi for my company car which is nicely loosened up now as I rag it everywhere as always in a hurry. I kept up with my mates MK 4 1.8 GTi from a standing start right up to 85 MPH the other day.
Also in comparison I have just bought a 56 plate GT TDi 6 speed for our private car and the difference is amazing between them. :)
