Title: Just had a Service!
Post by: Len on 10 November 2004, 09:52
What y'all think of this:-

Took my car to be serviced last evening, guy i know works in a garage but does his private work in the evenings.
Dropped it off at 5.15pm. Picked it up at 6.45pm.

He did - Oil and filter change, plugs and leads, fuel filter. Including parts and oil he charged me ?85.00
Not bad eh?

Is that reasonable or what?

Good value to me.

Cash in the hand 8)

Mine's going in for a service tommorow at Smart VW in Newark, but don't think it'll be that cheap :P

Yea cash - but he does stamp the service book!

Thursday evening he's gonna do the cambelt.

Has quoted me ?160 approx to do it along with a new tensioner!

Sounds good to me, i paid ?60 to get my mk3 16v serviced, but that was by a mate, and unfortunately he doesnt stamp the service book, but still use himas he is very cheap, reliable and trustworthy!

Yea it will be gibby, but cheers for the tip!

I first got recommende to this guy for my Pugs, coz he was Peugeot trained.
But he is much more than that, does a lot of air-cooled work and is also a top welder!
Used him for over 4 years now and has become a mate and drinking buddy, only drawback is some of his mates are drug squad cops!  ;) ;D

Just got mine back from being serviced.
Feels quicker and more reponsive, for a 8v 5Dr ;D

Told that the brake bias thingy, which evens out the brake load, is stuck. An MOT failure so will need doing.
Is this why I keep locking up when going fast and would it explain whey I went off the road a few weeks ago when going round a luckily slow bend :-[
Up a grass bank backwards, but didn't hit anything or damage anything :-[ ;D

Cam belt done last night.

Was lucky it could have gone anytime!
The belt had gone hard, next step brittle and break!
The bearing on the tensioner was getting nasty so could have gone anytime.

?150 all in - so i'm happy now.

Oh got him to take off the heatshield on the CAT.
Bummer i still got a rattle/resonance!!!
Where's the other heatshields????
