Title: Miltek noise...
Post by: TrickGTI on 18 March 2010, 20:13
Hi im pretty new to this site as iv just bought a MK5 GTI. Really want to buy a miltek exhaust system for it but wanted to know from you guys who have fitted one to what the noise levels are like?? i know youtube has videos of them but its never as good as asking the poeple who actually have them fitted. my last car was a clio cup with a sports system on and it was so loud it was a no go for long journys with people in the back. Is it just nice, to loud or the same. im sure with it being miltek, and vw being good with the old sound proofing it would be great but would like to know cheers.

I've been in plenty of Milltek equipped cars and mine has a full Milltek turbo-back resonated system. Inside the car you can hear it when pressing on, but at motorway speeds and around town it is as quiet as the stock system. The non-resonated system is slightly louder, but not overtly so. A few have said that the non-res system is a little boomy at around 3-3.5k rpm on the motorway.

Got a non res cat back Milltek on mine & it's fine. I think the resonated one would be too quiet for me & i'm no spring chicken.

Hey Gene

Whats the non-res noise like cruising on the motorway? is it boomy or intrusive?

Will be looking to have one fitted soon myself

So the 'resonated' system is quieter than the 'non-resonated'? That seems totally backwards to me, as the term derives from 're-sound'.

Hi, I have a full resonated turbo back milltek system for sale, has covered less than 1000 miles but I am trading my gti in tomorrow so it's been removed from the car. I will also be happy to supply a full reciept (I work at a milltek dealer) so you will also have a full milltek guarantee.

I'm on 07917 166707 if you are interested.

You need the resonated version! I ran with the non-res for 8 months and at m-way cruising speeds it is boomy and can be very noisey inside the car. The resonated system is a bit too quiet though, but still louder than OEM on full throttle.

My blueflame goes on in two weeks, ive been in leon with one fitted though, they are LOUD, But good Loud , certainly didnt experiance any droan or boominess though but ive heard some people who have.

The general opinion of the blueflame seems to be louder than the non res miltek, but without the droan. If you hold on ill give you a report on how i find it on the gti

I was impressed with it on the leon though, although having recieved it im not that convinced on the quality

The miltek does droan, but only from new for the 1st 2000 miles or so. You will find this goes and my Non Res doesnt have any whatsoever @ 3500 rpm at high cruising speeds.

The Blueflame has ever so slightly larger outlets, sticks out the back a touch further then the Milltek.Has a slightly smaller, less large Rear silencer then the milltek, and is louder under hard throttle too.

Each person has different sound likings, so best bet is to find someone with it on their car and go try each.

Yea that would be great if you could let me know cheers. it really needs a shiny new one because the standard tail pipes are getting abit scabby and will just finish it off nicely. Carn't wait wooop ha

the blueflame is a lot louder than millteks when on full throttle and sounds much more purposeful. its a true 3 inch all the way and mated to a 100 cell cat you get bigger gains too. they are developing a TUV system for European market that will be quieter aswell.

this is mine...

Nick,
just noticed your exhaust has the milltek style tail pipes.
Mine are the rolled inward variety that look just like the original equipment items.

You may have a miltek which is for the Std GTi and Not Ed30. They are different.
