Title: Fitting Boost guage
Post by: Purely VAG on 18 March 2010, 16:56
Got my boost guage to fit and it came in 2 parts, the LED guage and the vacuum inlet seperate, both have wires coming out, i don't understand as thought theyre one unit i wire in and put vac from FPR job done

Anyone know how they supposed to go?

pics?

From your description I would have said the vac part is a sensor which sends the figures top the readout?

sounds like you have an electronic gauge with Gauge and sender. if so vac pipe runs from fpr vac line to sender unit and the wires from sender unit to gauge.

Heres a pic lads,

Do i wire just cross the sender wires with the guage(colour to colour) then wire up to ignition live/earth

i'd just wire them together jord then wire them up as normal!

Looks like mine I've just fitted, black will be earth, red live and green is sender, I joined to each matching colour and then add extra length wire to reach fuse box and vac line connects to sender job done

So basically if i understand right,

Vac sender/guage cross red/red, black/black, green/green then run red to ignition 12v and black to earth. Job done?

either that's what the gauge bottoms out at or you have a vac leak - i'd be inclined to go with the first option as that's exactly how our innovate boost logger behaves too - probably the same map sensors! Still it doesn't hurt to have a quick look for telltale grime around leaky vac pipes.

I installed the Vac line all way from FPR to guage pal. 1 piece line, tight at both ends

Engine vac leak dude. But to be missing 10hg it'd probably be some huuuuuge hole. Like i said most likely its just how the sensor works. I suppose one way to test is borrow an analogue boost gauge from someone for a few minutes and plug it into your vac line, see what it reads.

Ahh ok mate. Well im going to take it for a run on bypass tomorrow to see what it boosts upto. Guage reads 0 with engine off if that makes a difference.

Which pipe is the FPR :embarassed:

FPR = Fuel Pressure Regulator

Look to the left of the big blue silicone pipe running vertically in middle theres a small blue one going horizontally. I have that T-pieced off, you'll see the silicone line runs off to the right, i've ran it round into the scuttle panel, others run it through other places.

Yeah ebay.

And 25psi was 6th gear.

I find it hard to look as i concentrate on where im steering rather than boost numbers.
