Title: Engine mounts
Post by: Tucker on 09 November 2004, 22:42
Right peolple,

I have had enough of my zorst rubbers breaking due to worn mounts, front mount is a pi$$ of pi$$ to do but the rear??

Picked the front and rear up today from GSF and going to do em tomorrow.

Just need to know what the rear one is like to do and the best way of changing the bugger

rear one is a fiddly job. lot easier if you have access to a set of proper ramps

id quite happily leave the car into a garage and let them change it - should only cost ?25 tops to fit

did u go for the later 16v hydro mount on the rear?

the combo you want is

16v solid rubber front
solid rubber gearbox
16v rear hydo mount

I dont mind getting dirty, got me a set of car ramps that will get her up.

Monies a bit tight at the mo so will be doing it myself ;)

I went for the standard ones as monies tight and its an early 84 (k jet i think)

How much of a fiddly job is the rear?

Cheers

So what needs to be done to get the bugger off?

its quite a phsyical job as the bolts are fcuking tight an not the easiest to get to! get the car in the air in have a look at its postion its hard to get at! i thought it would be easier to take off the whole mounting braket then take the mount out of that but i turns out it wasnt! lol

shouldn't be too bad but like benjam_in said the bolt are pretty tight as they tend to get all kinds of sh!t thrown at them. also i managed to snap one of the bolts going through the alloy bracket thing, which didn't help matters at all!
get out there witha load of WD40 and let it all soak in before you have a crack at it. should make things easier!

i just did all mine in a garage cos i couldnt be arsed, its cold, cost me 153 total, solid front solid gear hydro rear, loads smoother now and easier to change gear and it doesnt pop out of fourth if i cane it

do all 3

This is what needs to be done, remove 3 bolts from the top connecting the supposrting arm to the mount, then its a matter of supporting the engine with a jack. The arm needs to be removed to give space to get the mount out. Then undo the central bolt if you can get to it properly with the tools you have. Allow for lots of skin loss and ear muffs for the neighbours so they don't hear the swearing!

Most the time its the front mount that causes the most movement. Always try that one first.

I have done a front one on my mates a month or two ago and was a pi$$ of pi$$, I just needed a bit of advice on the rear as i have never done one befor.

Removing the drivers side drive shaft makes doing the back one a lot easier as gives a lot more space. Just a bit of advice i could have done with before doing mine.

Hi Poeple,

Thanks for the help, I have changed the front one on the weekend and it has made a big differance 8) dont think there is any need for the rear as she is all good, trip back to GSF some some money :P

Better gear changes and dont think she will be eating zorst rubbers :D

Still not happy with her tho, not long had her rolling roaded, and i needed to give her a tweek to get her running nice (idle). not happy with the way she goes, had two sort of races over the weekend and lost to both (On a stright), even a mate of mine said she seems to be holding back, she dose like to go when i put my foot down but she not all that ???
