Title: Stuck oil filter

Feel such an idiot asking this but oil filters do undo counter clockwise right? Bloody thing on my mk2 WILL NOT SHIFT!

What you tried to get it off with? I sometimes resort to the tried and tested "hammer a screwdriver through it" method, it's bloody messy though.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yeah I tried the hammer and screwdriver method as a last resort. Chain ratchet thing was crap, as was nylon strap. Ended up having to take the rad and fan out to get some proper access with mole grips. Half hour job has ended up taking most of the afternoon. I hate cars sometimes  :rolleyes:

Will rebleed the system tomorrow!

Buy some better tools for removing the filter.
You can get a three legged clamp tool, or an adjustable metal strap with a handle built in.
Both work very well.

Oil filter cups FTW  :cool: pop it on the end of the filter, get a ratchet on the cup et voilá filter out.

buy filter with the the nut on the end  :smiley:

i use a chain attachment for the ratchet it's never failed to shift one yet

just make sure once you get it of to hand tight only your new one  :tongue: least you'll then get it off the next time  :wink:

Polos and some small engined golfs have these.
I serviced a polo today, and the nut broke off  :rolleyes:

just make sure once you get it of to hand tight only your new one and use a smear of oil around the seal before installing so it doesn't cement itself to the housing  least you'll then get it off the next time  :wink:

try large pair of pipe grips or oil  filter chain tool.some poeple to them up too tight.lots of tool makers make oil filter band tool .grips for me are the last answer !!
