i know most of you aint interested, but for those that are....
my new beetle went in for its mot this morning, 1st off they struggled to get it in the garage as its soooo low, all the usual checks done, apart from they couldnt get it on the rollers to test the brakes so they had to road test it with some old gauge/gizmo thing:
number plate lamp inoperative
o/s stop lamp in operative
horn in operative
both front tyres below limit
and a few little bits of welding what theyve quoted me ?52+vat to do, so ive just gotta sort the electrics this weekend, get some tyres then take her back and shes on the road!!! wahey!!
too say im chuffed is an understatement, the lad i got it off was totally honest and told me all known fail points and he was down to a tee (apart from the tyres) so in all its gonna cost me:
?35 mot test
?70 tyres
?70 welding
not bad to get an old bug on the road thats been sat in a garage for donkeys!!
Gaz ;D

in the true spirit of monty python, always look on the bright side of life.
since getting a bit older, i view the mot a bit differently. its not about excess cost so much as about keeping yourself safe.
so, if the tyres are a bit shot - then stump up the ?? and get them sorted. one day, one random situation that you can't predict - they may save you. you'll never know that they saved you, but you'll know if they didn't - albeit it - momentarily.
i remember a police chief saying that the mot should be the barest minimum standard your car can achieve. and with a bit of age, you think - he's probably correct. what the point in having a car that scrapes through its mot, why not have a car that defeats the mot in style.
or maybe i've had too much to drink this evening........
