Guys,
I've searched and there's lots of threads on VAG Tacho and what you can do with it...
But I can't find a thread that tells you how to use it exactly?
I've had it sitting on my desk a few weeks and brother's bugging me now to get MTE on his car.
I've installed it on the laptop and it came with a software CD..
His car is a 52 reg PD 150
I assume I need to select the ECU from the drop down menu? Which one is it likely to be?
But even after that.. how do I enable the MTE and I think there was a power windows and/or auto locks option you can do too?
I'm sure it's simple, just need some help please :)

All you need to know (http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=153338)
:nerd:

Thank you

Ok.. I scan read all 14 pages!!
I know you say the info is in there, but it's not easy to find.
Is there not a chart somewhere just clearly stating what values need changing for which mod on each cluster?
Sorry, I do need spoon feeding sometimes
Also, assuming we're writing to the ECU (as you would with a remap) will I need to remove the cluster fuse again or is that not necessary for the VAG Tacho?
-
You won't get very far with the dash fuse pulled
In a nutshell - hit "connect any tacho" first.. it'll get a reply from the cluster when it finds the right one. Select the ECU from the drop down list and hit "connect selected ecu". If your clocks are VDO you should get straight in. If they're motometer RB8 you're in for a looooooong wait. Several hours usually. I'm not really sure i've always got bored after a couple of hours and stopped.
From that point it's fairly straight forward to download the eeprom dump. Edit it with the hex editor as posted in the links above, re-write it to the car. Ignition off, key out.. ignition back on and your changes should be applied.

That's really helpful thanks mate... I will have a play this week sometime and report back, cheers

Need some more help here guys..
Spent time trawling the forums and printed off what i thought I needed.
Hooked up the VAG Tacho just now and clicked on Connect Any Tacho
It came back with this (I've blanked out the bottom line with xxx as I think that's the VIN and possibly SKC?)
Try to Connect Kombiinstrument at 10400 bps
OK
1J0920926C KOMBI+WEGFAHRS. RB8 V24
Reading Unit Info...
WVWxxxxxxxxxx VWZxxxxxxxx
But it does nothing after that. Only a couple of boxes are clickable i.e. Erase ECU Errors and a few others. But most of the boxes are greyed out.
I can't hit the read EEPROM or Write EEPROM buttons.
Can I assume we have the FIS Half RB8 clocks and it will take 'hours' to read??
All we want is MTE :(
It's my brothers car and I don't normally drive it, but he showed me tonight that on his control stalk he has 3 positions but on the trip computer it's always on position 1 in the display.
Is that because MTE isn't enabled, or is there something wrong with his clocks? i.e. if he toggles to different positions, it always remains on pos 1 on the display...
Help as always is appreciated.

get VAGCOM and go to Module 17 - instruments - that will confirm what clocks he has
Or remove the clocks themselves - two torx screws under the little bit of cloth / plastic above the steering wheel
If they are Motometer clocks then it could be a long wait to access them
-
Oh so that info above is not actually from his clocks?
This bit, doesn't that mean he has the RB8 clocks?
1J0920926C KOMBI+WEGFAHRS. RB8 V24
And reading a post from somewhere else, it said that the ending xxxxx26C are Half FIS?
I'll hook up VAG Com tomorrow... very confusing lol

sorry had had a few pints when I read that   Yep he has the motometer clocks which can be a pain to access and I'm not 100% sure what mods can be done to them
-
Thanks Rhyso..
So.. Reading around and after confirmation from Topher it seems all we can do is MTE. To be fair, that's the only mod he really wants at the end of the day.
Can anyone with these clocks confirm if I'm doing something wrong or if there is in fact a quicker way to do this mod?
Also regarding the 3 position trip computer switch - is there something wrong if he's toggling but nothing is changing on the screen?
Cheers

you press the button under the stalk to change between the 1 and 2 memories
-
Ta mate, I'll tell him to try that
-
LOL, just got an SMS back from him to say that worked
Thanks mate

Has he got a manual as it is all explained in there
-
No mate, no manual unfortunately - and the dufus has just realised that the 3 position switch is to adjust the wiper speed settings

Did you find what value needed changing on the Motometer clocks to enable MTE ?

Did you find what value needed changing on the Motometer clocks to enable MTE ?
is that some closely guarded secret?
-
Dont know?
Ive only ever done VDO ones where you change the address of $1ED & $416. Is it the same on the Motometer ones?
-
i dont think so.. but i've never been patient enough to log into rb8 clusters, not even the one in my own car
-
Thats why I wanted to know aswell, Thats the same clocks in my car
