Well time has come to move our great Edition 30 on.
When putting our deposi down on a mk6 GTI it seemed really exicting, but now I have just cleaned the Edition 30 up, it seems such a shame to get rid of a great car.
Just wonderded if anyone else has gone from ED30 to mk6 and your thoughts?
PS If anyones after it, it will be in the for sale section on here tomorrow after I upload the pictures.
Thanks
Dave

hmmm, i couldnt just the 10k spend on a too simular car.Less powerful if your into Modding, but you would know that.
Personally i would wait another year for 1st year depreciation to get a better deal.
It certainly wont be a step backwards but sideways imo. Just Newer :undecided:

The Ed30 is a fantastic car, brilliant infact, But i think the MK6 is a better car , i just bought the GTD which very nice and i'm overjoyed with it. But yes missing the power & zip a bit, but can feel a blufin coming on? :smug:

I agree they have improved it just a bit in almost every department, but by doing that they have removed something from the car, I couldn't quite put my finger on it but it left me feeling a bit numb. I had a mk5 GTI and If I had another it would be the ED30. Its what the mk5 should of been in the first place.
Maybe it is worth the extra money to some, but if I had an ED30 sitting on the drive, I wouldn't be stumping up for a MK6. It just doesn't offer that much more.
-
I bought a mk6 because I had a very early (54 plate) mk5 which needed money spending on it (new brakes, aircon not working properly, couple of parking dings needed sorting), so went for the cheapest basic spec mk6 I could find. This was because I knew I could get the bits I would like to spec much cheaper than by paying optional extra prices from VW.
I bought an ex-demo mk6 for £21k in September. At the time late model ED30s were going for similar money if they had big spec. So for a couple of grand to change a late ED30 to an ex demo mk6 it wouldn't be too painful, but to spend upwards of £10k (unless you earn a big wage) for a lower spec car wouldn't make any financial sense.
The mk6 is a step up from the mk6 in many areas, but the current price difference and the fact that the mk5 is such a good car, especially in ED30 trim, makes it a bad financial prospect right now.
Having said all this, if you don't use the benefits of the K04 turbo much (ie. don't use high revs much) then the mk6 is quite a punchy performer, especially with a stage 1 re-map. Better on fuel too and cheaper to tax. BUT not worth £10k more of anyones money.
-
The ED30 is a great car and to change to a MKVI seems madness. If I HAD to change from my ED30 for another VW, it would most likely be a Scirocco - just for the change in shape
-
I keep toying with the idea of changing, bit simply can't decide what to replace her with. With petrol prices the way they are I'm half thinking of an old diesel as a second car. But when you tot up insurance tax etc I'd be as well selling mine privately and getting an ed30! Are you selling privately or are you trading in?

Get the new MK6 GTD its a brilliant motor with DSG, then map it and it will keep up with the standard ed30 any day , so much more torque going on!! :smug:

I dissagree, your not buying an inferior car with MK6 , your getting a rare car at the moment becuase there are none around very few new GTI's around. The new car is much more refined & smoother to drive + better engine better economy IMO
-
Thanks for all your comments guys!
We did look at the Scirocco, its my wifes car so I thought it would be nice, but we have a 1 year old and the boot is quite small.
I also couldn't justify the extra 5k or so for the R in Golf or Roc format, so plumped for a mk6 GTI.
To be honest I'm hoping they make another anniversay model, Edition 35 anyone?
I'm also suprised how the value of the so called 'special edition' doesn't hold like I thought it would, but thats life I guess.
If anyones interested in her let me know.

As before don't think i would swap a edition 30 for a mk 6 ?.Hang on for a used Golf R ?.
-
Dave, get your ad up, although I'd love an ed30,...i would need to shift my hotpatootie on first. Keep having this internal debate with myself, sell, dont sell, mod, sell, buy a 911, buy something cheap to beat the petrol bandits, get something cheaper, get something dearer...give her a wash and I am in love all over again... :-)
-
Good job you didn't go for the Golf R as the boot is smaller than the Scirocco's!!
The 4WD transmission of the R reduces the boot load space down to 250 litres from the 350 litres that the ED30/GTI has. The Scirocco boot is 312 litres, but has a higher lip which makes it look smaller and the opening is smaller than a golf's which makes it less practical too.

Have to second that... I have an Ed30 and have had the Mk6 GTI for a day and wasn't too impressed with it tbh...
-
Well its all done and nearly dusted now.
Car is officially up for sale. I'd love someone on here to have it, and get some aftermarket tuning done to it, and take it to some trackdays. That way I could still see it, when out in my race car.
If anyone is interested please see here. http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=148179.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=148179.0)
Note I am 'very' flexible on the price.

At these prices (teens of thousands) mr secondhand buyer is put off by the boyracerish modded look of the ED30.
When the prices drop to around five thousand the enthusiasts that live in the other forum sections will want them.
I can see a time when ED30's sell for less than real GTI's (until they drop to 5K).
-
Just a quickie for those saying that the MKVI is inferior to the ED30, there have been a couple of MKVI's that have been clocking mid 220's stock on different RR's so it might be a closer fight than first thought? My was clocked at about 225 stock and over 275 revo'd but we all know figures can be inaccurate, that's why i mention different cars on different rr's.
My mate has a Revo'd MK5 and recently drove my car a couple of hundred miles and said he could definitely feel the difference but not enough to make him change currently.
They're all good though eh?

Egbert - speaking as someone who bought an Ed 30 this week (and so perhaps might be a little biased) can I please ask that you just get over your obvious (oh so OBVIOUS) chip on the shoulder, malevolent, spiteful, wishing to do down, pointless side swiping of a much respected and all round excellent car.
Mr secondhand buyer is not put off - far from it actually....from buying an edition 30.
You dont own one.
You dont drive one.
I have only been here five minutes and already I have seen through you....perhaps you should change tack???

Mate, just ingore every one of his posts

Thanks for the tip - will do

Lads whats your honest opinion on price level for mine.
We need it gone (obviously) but don't want to give it away. But I am very flexible on price, as I know what I have in it, so do have a based line which is a lot lower than what I have listed.
How much have people on here picked Edition 30's up for receantly?

Hi Dave,
Firstly, just wanted to say what a brilliant example of a Edition 30 you have - Kudos mate
Im after an edition 30 myself, unfortunately, im after a 5 door with DSG - otherwise i would have snapped your up!!!
I think the price is reasonable - on par with others that ive seen, as with most things, there is always someone out there who wants what your selling.
Good luck with the sale mate!

I really don't get why you would want to trade a mint ED30 for a wanky MK6. wonders never cease.

I sort of understand where your coming from, but this car (the mrs's) has always been changed every 2 or 3 years, regardless of what its been in the past.
We didn't buy the Edition 30 as collectors car, or something to modify, we bought it as a good daily runner, something which it is excellent at.
I've got my race car for serious performance and fast fun, so understand a lot of owners on here will have thier cars for that sort of purpose too, and the Edition 30 is a good base for starting from.
Therefore the mk6 seems a good step (be it sideways or backwards :undecided:) as a replacement.
Some people change thier cars every 2 or 3 years, some change them every 10, its horses for courses I guess.

The Mk6 is not a wanky car , let me tell you that now!! I had an ED30 and went over to a GTD MK6 best thing I ever did. Yes the ED30 is great car but its not as good as the mk6 IMO even the GTI is better than the ed30 buy far. People need to stop slagging off the mk6 , just becuse you aint got one??
-
Changing cars every 2-3 years seems an awfully expensive thing to do. Im not sure why you do it that often, but this is me speaking from no doubt a totally difference financial perspective.
Having said all that, your ED30 looks totally spot on, and i think your asking price is also fair. Before you mentioned the price i had a figure in mind which was actually above what you listed it at, so good luck with the sale.
I think the problem with the ED30 not holding it's resale value as highly as it should is because of the R32, (which arent holding their value that much either tbh), putting the ed30 in a difficult middle-ground territory.
-
Yes and No I guess, I own a few cars, and have kept some for several years. Problem is the jump to something newer againb after owning something for a number of years is very big, especially if your after something less run of the mill, like a Focus LX or something like that. But also I am fortunate I guess, but I do work 'HARD for the MONEY!'
New reduced price, see here http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=148179.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=148179.0)
Dave

Reduced again guys, probably for the last time before a P/X too.
Dave
-
Another price drop again, before new car comes, due to time wasters!
Dave
-
This is a tough sale then Dave? It may be because people are reluctant to spend this much money on a private sale, as there is little to no "safety net"
Do you have to sell?
-
I have never known a car to take so long to sell to be honest, and I have no idea as to why?
I guess loans are little harder to get, well at a good rate anyway at the moment, and as you say a big private cash sale.
I'm still sure first 'serious' viewer will buy.
Dave
-
Its just getting that 'serious' viewer. A lot of them tend to be the young boyracer wannabe's that cannot afford the car to start with! Just there to waste your time!
Best of luck mate.
-
I had one guy come up to me in the street as we have a sticker in the window and ask how much it was. I said around 15, and he said oh right £1500, and I just looked at him and said WTF?
Dave
-
rofl!!
-
Well looks like last reduction before dealer P/X now boys.
£14,500 no offers
