Just browsing through a few sites and came upon these:
http://www.alloygator.com/index.asp?page_ID=23
Anyone seen these before? Don't think they would suit Monza Shadows, but for my current Alfa with no rim protection, would be great
-
Suitable for up to 21" wheel...
I guess this means its a long strip you cut to size?
-
Funnily enough, I just saw these advertised in Auto Express yesterday.
-
A: Learn to drive
B: Dont let your wife drive

From the threads in here of late. I think quite a few of us may need rim protection.

I waited and waited for a response from either you or Steve.
On cue, you took the 'plunge'!
You are both such a bunch of rimmers.
I think I might invest in silver or black ones. I am tending towards silver as it makes my 18" look bigger!!!!

These cost a bit more than the gaitors. I wonder if there is any difference.

You may be right as there is lack of a lip on the Monza Shadows. Damn!

Hate to dampen your spirits guys but a friend of mine got a similar product for his car a while back. It was basically a plastic ring which clipped round your wheel and was held on by the tyre. He was heading down a motorway and hit something with his wheel. The rim protector snapped clean in half and his wheel instantly went flat.
a) it was very cold so it could have been more fragile
b) it was probably only because he hit the debris with his wheel (or whatever it was)
c) they may have been improved since then.
I am personally not keen on putting anything between my tyre rim and my wheel rim... especially if I'm on the motorway or using the performance of my car. I wonder how they hold going round a corner quickly?
From the vid it looks like this product is a material which is pressed on. Personally I have my doubts that something which can be so easily pressed on and shaped will be so strong against damage. But at least it's safer than sticking a rim between your tyre and alloy.
I do reckon though that being more careful would be a better plan

Safe sex kev!! How was Sunday afternoon?

That video of the car kerbing at least 5 times looks a con.
The kerb for a start is slanted so it is only the tyre that is rubbing against it.
The rim afterwards is hardly marked if at all.
Snakeoil if you ask me.
-
funny comment yesterday, Snoopy, about the need for rim protection
-
^^ agreed. You can't see any sign of a car, either, which makes me think the wheel is just being rolled by hand. There are some pix on their Facebook page here http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=398827&id=498491990262 The feedback above about them snapping and deflating the tyre is the nail in the coffin, as far as I'm concerned.

My mate reckons Autoexpress are going to do an extended test in April, so I'm going to keep an eye out for that to see what they reckon

Thats not these ones mate. They had metal clips on them didn't they (I tried em too they were naff) .These aren't brittle either, they're really quite flexible.

Not part of the Alloygator team are you mate? Just noticed a first post from you over on Civinfo, again defending the product

We have 3 cars in our family. My GTI, my sisters Civic Type R, and my Dad's Rangie. I'm interested in them, they look good to me. but you make up your own mind.
Like everyone else on here I can have an opinion and you can have yours. I was just sharing my thoughts with you.

Yup, no problem, just seemed peculiar to me that all your posts are 1st time posts, all specific to Alloygators, whether it's here, Civinfo.com, rrsport, 5 series forums or VWEosclub.com
Similar to posts on other forums like the Jag XF amd Tyresmoke by a guy called "Boner"
But of course, if I'm completely wrong I apologise unreservedly
Personally I think it would be a better idea, if someone was affilliated with the product, which of course in this instance they clearly are not, that they come on a forum and offer some form of site discount, or a trial with a lucky person. Just imagine how much more business could be generated.

I have just odered a set (in black) for my 18" pirellis. Worked out at £44.00 all in. I will probably have to get my local tyre dealer to fit them. I will let you know what they are like. Duffer

They will posibly make your wheels look smaller :undecided: and possibly spoil the overall look :lipsrsealed:
Make sure the tyre fitter does not damage your alloys. They can be very rough.
Would be interested to see how they look.
All the best.

Hi guys
Check out last weeks Auto Express mag as they did a test of these rim protectors, you have to remove the wheels and they take about an hour to fit but seem ok, tho not sure about the monzas maybe too smooth.

That is right. It could be a problem with the Monzas as they are rimless!
Kev had already mentioned this in an earlier post on this very thread.

I e-mailed alloygator and sent him a photo of my monzas. They sent me a sample through the post cos weren't shure they would fit. They seem very hard to me and look like they could do damage when fitting. i would get a pro tyre fitter yo put them on. I do think they're a good idea and red ones would look cool on a candy white....DEVITO
