Title: MK2 - Safe removal of fabric on door card?
Post by: drapergti on 15 March 2010, 07:53
Hi, is it possible, and do you have any tips on removing the fabric from a MK2 door card.

I have a small sub behind a rear quarter panel and want to drill some holes in the door card to stop it resonating. To do this I and maintain an original look I would like to lift the fabric, then make the necessary holes, then glue the fabric back.

Can this be done? Is it possible I will rip the fabric as I remove it?

Cheers for any advice.

it should peel off fine stuart but i would suggest you cut one big hole rather than lots of little ones then stretch some speaker cloth over the hole so when you re glue the original fabric back on it won't sag over the hole

Thanks, (wish I just got you to do it on the day!   ) so, when you say stretch the speaker cloth, should this be over the entire door card or just over the hole and with attached with spray adhesive?

Cheers

I guess I can staple the acoustic cloth.

I am going to continue this in the Audio section for more inspiration.

Thanks for your help
