Hi all
My gti failed to start about a week ago. Put it down to a weak battery because it was a bit sluggish to start and the voltage was low. So as you do gave its first ever full charge and hey presto car started (just). Next morning car failed to kick into life. Starter motor was trying to turn over but no joy. Tried to jump start off the volvo but no luck there either...So its not the battery...
Clean the terminals on the battery / starter motor and had a general look round. Had a reconditioned starter, new coil, new dizzy cap, new HT leads and plugs and all done in the last year. Took off the dizzy to have a look and found it soaked in oil.
Cleaned it out with a rag and WD40 and now the car starts no probs. If your car is failing to start its worth having a look at this as the cap is only held on with two philips screws.
Any else had this problem??
Also the problem is only temp solved as there must be a seal / O ring gone between the dizzy and the block (abf engine)
So any ideads to what is causing the leak into the dizzy?
Cheers
Brian

Well basically as you look at the car its on the right hand side top of the engine. HT leads are connected to it

if oil was under the cap then its the seal inside the dizzy thats gone, its a bit tricky to replace as the pin on the baser holding it all together can be a bit stiff.

will probably be tomorrow before i look at it again, so I'll update if I find out whats causing the leak
