Was on my way home from work, coming down the dual carriage way. Hit sixty and went up to 6th gear and there was nothing there when I put my foot down. It stayed like this until I stopped at the chip shop. Once I left the chip shop it was ok again and has been fine all day today. Obviously something ain't quite right and I'm sure it'll happen again if left. I've tried so many times to get VAGCOM working on my laptop and keep failing so I can't use that to help me diagnose. Any ideas?

don't worry i hear it happens to all blokes at some point.
as for your car troubles the ecu most likely reacted to a boost spike on gear change. Could be sticky actuator/vnt but it may just be a freak occurrence that will appear again. Wait 'n see!

Would some of those fuel additive products help? Is there any bits and pieces I can clean up that may also help?
-
not really, the stuff used to clean the turbo which gets sprayed directly on it, is some mega-corrosive shit (you also get pretty high off it). fuel additives aren't strong enough to make a difference if that really is the root of your problem.. the car might just need a real good blast
-
Ok I'll give it a good blast over the weekend and hopefully the problem won't occur again. I take what happened is what LIMP mode is tho?

i'd bet on a sticky actuator
