Ok just a quick question, if i went out and bought say a 06 gti 2day from a main vw dealer which is obv outside standard 3 year warranty,
do they offer like a 1 year warranty when u buy a car from them as standard if its outside manufactors warranty?
ALSO, does anyone know how much extended warranty is? my 08 gti dsg (import) warranty runns out 1st may, its already had a
full new dsg gearbox fitted due to jerking, and i am parynoyed that once the warranty runs out i wil have problems again, like it aint perfect
now but i took it in recently and they carnt find a problem, and when we took it for a test drive it obv dint do it, it just jerks sometimes
between 1st-2nd, like a few times a month, rest of the time its fine.

I Got my 55reg gti this time last year, exactly three years old at the time!
It was from vw main dealer, and came with a 3 month warranty! not sure what you mean buy buying plates?
-
Deleted that bit, i was just saying am i left legless basiclly with no warranty.
thanks!

My experice is that stealers will offer a 3 month warranty. When my fiancee bought her polo from the stealers there was an offer on when she got a years warranty with it (Its on an 04 plate). However this warranty isn't that great. There are a lot of exclusions, and even though its a VW approved used warranty they have to get authorisation which can take 24 to 28 hours
Its really just a third party warranty and if the warranty co decides not to pay up, you are left with the 'diagnostic' charge for investigating the fault. About £100 at my stealers.
Its OK for free, but if you are asked to pay for it, I think there are better one out there. warranty direct are supposed to be pretty good...

If you went with a main dealer they would definatly be selling you the car with some sort of warranty, 3 months minimum!
But you could also buy an extended warrenty too! although if its only 3/4 years old i wouldnt bother! as long as its been serviced regularly and had cambelt and tensioners/water pump replaced you should be fine mate. marty

You should get a 12 month warranty as part of the AUC (approved used cars) scheme. I find it to be quite good (the Audi side is)
-
^^ Standard VW warranty is 3 months out of the initial warranty period
-
I always thought that you got 12 months warranty if bought from a VW dealer - may as well buy one from a non-franchised dealer then and save yourself a few quid.
-
They must have changed it or something, because otherwise what's the point of buying from VW as stitch said.
-
Like I said when we bought my Fiancee's polo it came with a years warranty but they were using it heavily as a promotional tool.
Its probably at the dealers discretion what they offer - but the minimimum they can sell the car with is 3 months. Which at my stealers is the standard offering. Other dealers may well not be as stingy ...

Ey up fellas,
This is my very first post so i don't know if ive done it right. A main dealer "extended" warranty should be a prety safe bet, defanately better than a off the shelf one. i bought mine through work (i work at audi so i imagine its the same warranty) as a trade in. it was exactly 3 years old and i had a one year warranty put on mine. Obviously it wont cover everything a manufacture warranty will, but as i said there a safe bet.
The only thing that would worry me is the fact its only 3 months. :undecided:

When I brought my 05 GTI from a main stealer, I got a one year extended warranty free of charge, it just came with it. It has done me well so far as I needed the driver’s side electric window motor, and some sort for sensor replaced, all done under warranty, at a different stealer nether-the-less. Rules must be different across the board?????

I was worried about buying from a VW main dealer which is 4 hours away from where I live, am I right in saying that the warranty is on a national basis, or should iI be looking more towards my local dealership? :undecided:
-
A main dealer warranty is national and will be covered at any main dealer
