Title: strange noise (mk11 1992 16v)
Post by: shawn on 02 August 2003, 10:10
can any one suggest what this noise could be, it comes from the front end and only happens when i go around left and right bends. its not a constant whining noise like a bearing going, its more like a jud, jud, noise and speeds up until it disappears, i've changed both outer cv joints, replaced the o/s wheel bearing, just put brand new discs and pads( thinking it was warped discs), theres only the nearside wheel bearing to change now put reluctant to change it(a right b!tch to replace) if its not going to remove the noise.
could i of over tightened the hub nuts, does any one know the right torque settings.
cheers

Be suprised if you have over tightened the hub nuts, they are done up to 170 lb/ft, its better to overtighten them than undertighten as you'll wear the new bearing out quickly.
Sounds like you have changed just about everything that it could be...........those front wheel bearings are fun aren't they >:( I usually take the strut into work and use their hyraulic press, makes life a little easier.
