Right then, I'm after some thoughts and opinions on my car, for anyone that doesn't know what it is it's a Rivage cab, they made about 500 of these in blue or green about the same time that they did the sportlines (AdamB's), it's got good spec, leather seats, electric windows, heated seats etc. I have so far resisted modifying it too much as I wanted it standard as much as I can and the only things I've done so far are add chrome Wolfsburg mirror adjusters, clear side repeaters and clear front indicators. I was going to change other things like getting crystal front and back lights etc but now I'm looking at doing some subtle mods so as keeping in with the cars originality.
I'm thinking of doing the following in the future -
1- Fit a Powerflow exhaust
2 - Lower it by 40mm and possibly add new dampers (but not adjustable)
3 - Refurbing the alloys to fix dints and scratches
4 - Adding chrome filler cap (to go with the alloys bling)
The lowering etc is purely for the look rather than performance because at the end of the day it's a cab and although it is reasonably quick I wouldn't consider it to be fast. So what do you people think ? They are subtle mods but do you reckon I will be straying away from the originality of the car ? All opinions appreciated.? :)
-
Sounds fine to me cept for the petrol cap. that might be a bit too bling.
-
^^^ As Meatloaf once said "You took the words right out of my mouth" (although hopefully it wasn't when you were kissing me) :-X
All sound good, chrome petrol cap not to my taste I'm afraid :)
-
^^^^ especially with that 'tashe!!! :D
-
Thanks S11EPS and Len, opinions appreciated. Also, if anyone has any other ideas that I should consider that would be subtle then let me know, needs to be subtle though as I'm not interested in changing to a single lamp grille for example as I think that's going away from the originality.? :)
P.S. Len, dont you be hijacking my thread now !? ;) ;D
-
An eyebrow for the grill, colour coded. and a VR6 chin spoiler. it would give the car a lower look, without having to lower it too much.
-
Sorry gibby - just couldnt resist replying to Simon's comment! ;)
And him with a real bling motor!
-
the modifying bug has got him ;D
definitely needs lowering a bit. getting the wheels polished would be good
not sure of the point to getting an exhaust as like you say, it's not really about performance (that's what you got the camper for :P )
another no to the chrome fuel cap
-
If the exhaust needs replacing anyway then it does make sense to go for a powerflow custom made one - guaranteed for life, increased performance (even if it is a cab) and very little more in price :)
-
i think your car looks awesome as it is gibby to be honest. maybe lower it a bit (eiback koni kit is about 25mm) but i say leave the exterior as is. :D ;)

I am sure there are a few of sitting back, smugly thinking "We told you so!"
I can't wait to see what you have done to it by the time the shows come around again.
-
Just bought a brow Gibby-im still not too convinced! :-\
ill let ya no if im sellin it if ya interested?!
Dinx :-*

i'd lower it a bit, and get the wheels mirror polished and not do much else. the exhaust could be upgraded but try to keep an original style tail pipe just to keep things looking fairly standard.
you've heard of oem+ so i don't think you'll do anyharm witha few mods

Thanks veedub, dont know whether to go down 25mm or 40mm though. :-\
Joe: If it's not too thick a question, what's oem+ ???
Dinx: Thanks for the offer but I'm not convinced about the eyebrows myself :-\
Thanks all for the replies, much appreciated, when I get some cash I think a wheel refurb and lowering springs is first and might wait until the exhaust goes before getting a new one but I did want an original look tail pipe. :)
jv and Ads: Dont even talk to me you gits, this is all your fault in the first place ! ;) ;D
-
If i can hun ill try n pm ya sum pics with it against my car-may help ya to decide once n for all-not that i hav like! :-\ :P
Also, still waitin on me tails but will let ya no! ;)

sorry i thought it was one of those vag buzzwords!
its an american term for using top vag parts but tweaking them so they are slighly better! think cult society and how they use the whole vag range to get the desired look. over here OE means original equipment, not sure what the 'M' stands for but the '+' is for going that bit further.
did any of that make sense? ???
i mean by taking the 15" le castellettes you've got (OE) and getting them polished makes them better than factory but still using vag parts (oem+)
i think i've confused myself! :P
-
well explained joe :)
the M is for manufacturer. as you said it's the idea of it being as if VW had pushed things that bit further. the usual example is a mk4 with say 19" bbs lm and real low ride height - ie they could have made it that way
-
No better example of OEM+ that comparing an Audi A6

to an Audi RS6

Thanks all, I get it now. :) I knew what you were trying to say joe :D
Saw a Rivage at Action with mirrored polished le castellets and they looked mint ! :) Was thinking of that route but it's a daily driver and I'll be polishing the fekkers every day or have to get some winter wheels :) hhhmmmmm, decisions descions ;D
Anyone know if I can drop 40mm with no probs or should I go 25mm ??? Dont forget that this is not about performance it's about the look :)
I'm a lowering virgin by the way :)
-
Well im goin for a 40mm drop Gib n i hav been told it wud ok,look much better etc :)
but dont start talkin which springs/coilvers/adjustable thing-a-me-jigs! :-\ :P
Dinx? :-*
-
Thanks dinx, you're not the only one that gets confused about the whats-a-thing-a-me-jigs ;D :-*
-
Mine is dropped by 40 mm - haven't had any problems ;)
-
40mm wont scrub or foul anything :D
your wheels will be easy to clean gibby, sorry no sympathy from polished split rim owners ;D
-
^^^ totaly agree, i dropped mine (its a mk2 gti though) 40 to start off with, no problems at all. its now wound down stupidly low on coilovers and the only rubbing i get is when i've got my split rims on the back as they are wider. and even then its not a big problem, get it down 40mm!!
i'd get a set of winter wheels if your going mirror polished, like veedubgti16v said, cleaning polished bbs splits is a nightmare!!! at least you would be able to take a buffer to yours fairly easily!
-
40mm drop, maybe a backbox with a nice tailpipe that compliments the car and NO to the filler cap. Sweet.
