You have just got use to it thats all. Happens to every car i own its why i never just own one at a time. That way you go back to the lower powered one for a week then get in the GTI/GTD and it feels quick again. Saved me a fortune over the years from not changing cars.

I would find that sick, if they now take the mickey out of you.....there is a difference of laughing together or laughing at a person...I mean it...

I reckon there are a fair number of people who have driven both and can advise from experience....

For what it is worth a GTI or a GTD it stays a sublime car nothing can change that...

You've bummed the GTD up that much and maybe rightly so that there is no way within a day or two you would admit to making a big mistake.

Who are you trying to get to rise to the bait?  I won't tell anyone honest

IF this isn't a wind up then its pretty sad...
You had 2 x 30+ page threads on which is better GTI or GTD on the go, and 95% of the responses were get the GTI as you'll regret the GTD.

The GTD is a very nice car, but I can imagine it lacking the same buzz with the lower revs and slightly sloppier handling.

If you've really fallen out of love with the car after 10 days its a shame.  :undecided:

I have made mistakes in my life ,but also lernt loads from them!! I have just been for a blast and still love the car very much ! But it's lacking in performance , the car is very quick don't me wrong! The modding route is never ending & it's addictive?

Unoffical timings the GT 140 now 0-60 in 7.7 and could be faster just can't seem to not hog the clutch in 2nd, so the GTD should be well sub 7 seconds me thinks.....

Hello mate, Nah not regreting buying the car, just missing that little bit more poke me thinks?? Now another negative on the car after driving almost 1000 miles it dos'nt feel as solid as the Mk5. You can feel where they have done the cost cutting, things like the locks as in centrole locking, my mrs even says that its not as solid as the ED30, and she knows nothing about cars. Maybe saying its a mistake is to much of a big statement??
I dont understand whay they have charged more money on the MK6 ? What i will do is get the mk7 gti next when it comes!!

That engine will be very tight, you need at least 3k miles on the clock before it starts to loosen up so hang in there. Mine might only be a 1.6TDI but it's a different car now it's done 3k and it's gettingbetter every day.

We shall see my freind? I love the car think its a great buy, at the end of the day I got £4,300 discount on it with loads of extra's!! I do like it nice and tight though

The cost cutting related to production techniques, and the cost of putting the car together as opposed to the actual cost of the materials used. With the MK5 there were more extras to add (i.e. arm rest, mfsw etc) and therefore just the organising of each car would have taken quite some time.

The only noticable cost cutting i can notice is lack of net in the boot, auto petrol release cap, gear lever, dials (which have a cheaper look).

I transferd the net over from my ED30, I very nearly did the gear lever too (Golf ball) miss that, But even the panels dont feel as solid , the door's, bonnet. I think the car is lighter as well?

Just feed the GTD haters (well, Kev anyway) more ammunition why dont ya?
I just finished a week in a GTD with 6k on it and though I didnt like the DSG, it did feel quicker than mine, and I`m putting that down to the engine loosening up.

iirc they have changed the panels (well doors anyway) from the ones with removable sins to normal ones. although i wouldnt say it makes it feel any less solid. Placebo?

Hi Dan, please slap away mate hahaha, I will defend the car to the max becuse its a fantastic piece of kit, as ive said before the mk5 diesel does sound like a tractor, and feels like one too! But not on the new GTD , also the dsg box is not in tune with the response of the paddles?? Hope ive made sense there? The ed30 was so responsive with DSG. The jury is out on DSG & diesel ?? Not sure about it?  I am not going down that road of DSG re-map, no chance!! ps there is no soot on my exaust and i have not cleaned it since i bought it, well not the pipes anyway. The pipes on my Ed30 wrere always filthy black , so the engine is much cleaner IMO.

you have changed from owning a car which has pretty much the same engine as the new Golf / Scirocco R, albeit slightly detuned, to a 170 ps diesel

Its like changing from a M3 to a 320d - your gonna notice a drop in power..

Look on the positive side of things though steve, your MPG will improve

This thread rocks

Yes its getting intresting???

No its not.  Its boring

Christ, I'm a sipper of the devils fuel but even I know that going from a 230bhp to 170bhp car you're going to notice a lack of fizz.  Power delivery between the two cars is totally different.  Also running around London I'd doubt you'd see much benefit of a diesel as they're rubbish for short, start / stop journeys

ive been impressed with revo on the ED30, and those claimed gains for the GTD will put you on par with a standard GTi

the increase in torque is huge and will hopefully give you that zipiness back that you are missing

i believe VWR in Milton Keynes are now Revo agents so hopefully you can retain your warranty if you go with them.

Would still wait a few thousand miles before mapping - get it run in first - 900 miles is too soon to start jumping to conclusions

it took me 5k miles to get use to DSG, I hated it at first and thought about swapping, but after giving up on D and S and using the paddles all the time i have adapted and now love it

Yeah, I do it all myself, its theraputic and really very rewarding. The detailing section is pretty good, the guys are spot on with their advice, especially Guy and Dan. I'm sure its a straight section so you may not be allowed in being the only ghay in the forum

Well here goe's , i know i'm going to get slauterd here , but i can take it!!

I think ive made a mistake going from a GTI to the GTD, i am having my doubts now on the performance of the car missing the fizz & handling??
Steve I have not got the time to troll through the 11 pages posted so far so forgive me if I am repeating what has already been written.
I have been driving VW diesels for the best part of 20 years. Normally it takes some 4,000mls before you see your true mpg. The engine can take up to 6,000 mls and more before it loosens up.
Handling of diesels is not bad but it will never match the flow of a petrol car t

Yes for the first 10,000 mils keep your eye on the oil. After the engine is beded down iol consumption lowers

I'm very happy with the MPG , 53 on motorway at 75 is good for me!! ED30 was 30mpg , 18 around town.

Sorry I thought going by your orignal post you were not sure if you had made the right choice getting a GTD.
You seem to be happy now thats all that matters not what anyone else thinks.
Yes I have tried the GTD and I would say its a great car you have got. I have a GTI on order and am looking so forward to getting behind the wheel. Had a drive of my sister in laws new Mini Copper S the other day. WOW what a drive but I would never buy a Mini for myself , I mean I have a family.

My hair is too short mate . Ordered the GTI in December and have been told mid April for delivery though that has yet to be confirmed. As long as I get it for the Summertime a bit shocked at the price as with extras it is not too far short of 30,000 grand so I think I will be keeping this car and running it into the ground.
