might be a getting a mk4 vw golf 1.4
its got coilovers wheels etc but there is a problem with the gear box
this is what the guy said to me
Okay no probs.....right a common fault with golfs is the gearbox, the brass rivets inside come loose and the diff hits the gearbox n cracks the housing causing an oil leak n making it run dry luckily i spotted it strait away and left it outside my house.. can easily be fixed either with a recon gearbox or send the box away to be fixed i was quoted 350 / 400 for a reconed box so not as expensive as most
is this is a true valuation? if i can find a gearbox i can get it fitted for free but just wondering about this, any help please?
im a total vw noob :)

my mate had this problem with his golf, sure he paid about 200 or the box and then another 200 for a clutch lol.
and got it changed for free.

the guy would give me a clutch kit with the car

Welcome to the forum
If you do go for it, look to get yourself a cheap box from a scrappy or as said a recon one shouldn't be much more then £300 surely?
get posting in the mk4 section the Guru's in there will be able to help you.
