Title: Acceptable play on a K03s?
Post by: wratey on 08 March 2010, 14:26
What is the acceptable play in the shaft on a K03s? Ive done a search, and people say no play whatsoever, some say a small bit up and down, some say you have to have play for the oil etc.
Ive seen a K03s to replace my K03, and its got 0.5mm play up/down and side to side, and its done 70k. Would this be ok?

Also it doesn't come with an actuator, so does anyone recommend a forge one, or just stay OEM?

Cheers, Wratey

the best advise i can give you buddy is to buy new, you can never trust any of the crap on ebay that's where i got mine from some guy claiming it had come out off a audi TT and only done 5000 miles,
there is a few turbo company's out there so it pays to shop around i found a good price at a place called the turbo centre for a brand new ko3-052(ko3s) with actuator, fitting kit and 2 years warranty for £558.13

In hindsight I should have bought new, but I was one of the lucky ones. (frantically touching some wood as I type)

You want as little play as possible, but don't forget you need a bit of space for the oil on the bearings

After reading many stories on here and other forums, I bought a brand new ko3s. It is expensive, but its always better to be safe than sorry.

I was actually quite relieved I changed mine when I did, as when I saw the ko3 that came out of the car, I was shocked. It had cracks all over the place

Really?

I cannot imagine it would last much longer though. I will post up some pics later of the ko3.
