Title: Looking for a Good clay kit
Post by: Dan_GTI on 08 March 2010, 10:55
can someone advise on a good clay bar kit as i've never done mine before and i reckon the paintwork has plenty more potential. Also does it remove ALL contaminants such as tar?

claying removes bonded contaminents, tar/traffic film/grit/fallout etc and leaves your paint smooth again ready for polishing.
if your new to claying i would suggest getting a fine or ultra fine clay bar and some dodojuice born slippy clay lube, read the stickys at the top of the detailing forum for more info or fire away with any questions you may have.

I have to agree with the above, the Meguiar's Kit is perfect for beginners. If you want to spend a bit more, you could maybe go with the Dodo Juice as Dan has said, some Gentle Grey and Born Slippy:

I do love Meg's Smooth Surface clay kit. Never used the cleaner wax but the spray smells gorgeous. Very easy to use and I rate the cloth too!

Ah! I was just about to whack a thread on about this! I clayed mine today for the first time and spent ages in halfords deciding on a kit and went for the meguiars one. It's done an absoloutely fantastic job! Paints as smooth as glass and so shiny that you can see colours in the reflection (my cars dark red). I did the wax afterwards as well from the kit and it brought the paint out even more.

Deffo recommend, well worth the twenty quid or so

I clayed mine today for the first time with megs clay kit and WOW WOW WOW!

The clay bar was black, and I only did the bonnet

Made a huge difference though. I washed it, dried it, clayed it, polished it, waxed it and the result was amazing, mirror shine. Shame I got a load of scratches on the bonnet and swirl marks on the car. Clay left the bonnet glass smooth though, it was so good.

I used meg stage 2 polish by the way
