Title: stiff gearbox

 my 96 golf gti 8v has a gearbox that is stiff to change in all gears and is at its worse when cold, all gears select fine and there is no noise when changing or in drive, i suspect it could be oil related but just wondered if this is common place with this model. :huh:

sounds like oil if you said every gear, and when you change it make sure you get the right viscosity.

swap the gearbox oil for 75/90 synthetic...but also check the bushes/linkages as any of these being stiff could give issues (although i would expect bad selection issues too)
