I've had some terrible experiences with vw stealerships. The odd few are OK tho.
-
Dealerships are appaulling nowdays. They really let a great product down >:(
-
the one in woking has got a few good people behind the parts counter :D
all garages are a rip off, main dealers are even dearer but at least they put good parts in your car :P
-
As the old saying goes, at least Dick Turpin wore a mask ;D There's a very good reason why they are called stealerships :o
-
i stay away from stealerships if i can, and use a local garage
-
better still.. use a local vw specialist.. the one i use now is run by 2 ex VAG trained guys anyways.. (originally from a local Seat stealership richardsons of wellington thats now gone tits up since they've left.. har har).
they tend to be more pragmatic and sensitive to the impact of work on your wallet ;)
-
'seers right, stick to local specialists :D
-
I've never been able to fault the quality of my local dealer's work, or the convinience, or the service, or the valeting, but at ?70+ per hour labour, i say find a trusty specialist.
Having said that i intend to have services done at vw, as i think the stamp still has an effect on the value of my car, plus they give it a full inspection and while it's still under their warranty, maybe i can fleece them for a change!
However it'll only ever have the smallest inspection service at the dealer. I recently got the prices and a 20,000 mile service is ?186, a 40,000 mile service is ?280!!!!!!
The ONLY difference........ they change the plugs and air filter at 40k. ?95 for that, i don't think i'll bother thanks.

I agree i had a bad experience when i took my 16v for a service. I got half the work i asked for done and they couldn't get the adress right on my invoice it was a complete f'#k up oh and i got a note saying my name is joe bloggsim the QUALIFIED Technition who worked on your car. All well and good but he didnt find the service book in the service flap. Forgive me if im wrong but surely a vw technition should find this on a mk2 golf......???? So i had to take it back to sort out the stamping upof my book. Hassle i didnt need, On price i thought it wasn't 2 bad But im comparing it to the labour rate @ Audi where i work i suppose!!

I posted on this topic a while back, will NOT have any work done there anymore, go independant now: Volkservice or Motortune, both in Blackpool:

Ive been the once to ask if i could have my dials fixed, They scratched there heads and told me it would cost ?100 just for them to come up with an idea on what to do :-\
-
Hey fielder, I'd have only charged you ?75 to think about it ;) ;D
-
the problem is... they're only really interested in fleecing new car owners for servicing money and add-ons plus the local market for VAG spares.
they often hire younger mechanics who wont have been there long enough to have worked on mk3s, let alone anything older!
-
Does anyone really believe that stealerships know more and do a better job that other mechanics, cos I don't. As overseer says they'll just put the YTS (Youth Training Scheme for all you youngsters ;)) boy in to do some of the menial tasks :(
-
i guess you have to go through the (bad) experience of using a stealership a few times.. i like using a specialist because you dont go through 4 different layers of staff to get things sorted..
i know for my specialist of choice ( http://www.performancedriven.co.uk/ ) that i can go there and talk to either of the 2 guys and they know whats up.. i give my keys to the guy thats working on the car, i pick it up from the same guy, get a rundown of the work done from that guy, give my visa to that guy.. and I know the money goes direct to them.
-
Stealers are only any good for parts in my opinion. I'm sure some of you remember how they killed my turbo by dropping a nut in it, then saying there was no fault.. then denying responsibility completely.
Must get round to paying their forecourt a visit late one night :D
-
Agree entirely with you top, I've never taken any car to a main dealer but I will always go there for parts etc. :)
-
I bought the Corrado with a full dealer service history, so I'm inclined to have the servicing done there purely for the stamp, but any other work will be going to a specialist. However, the dealership up here have offered to give me a reduced rate on the hourly charge, because it is an older car, and because I have two dubs. Probably not a bad idea to keep me sweet, as I could put a bit of business their way over the year, running a couple of older cars.

not always a good idea mate. a friend and local tuner was a vw technician for 15 years and although he's still friends with the parts department, he says a vw stamp on a corrado is worth feck all nowadays. he specialises in corrado's and from his experience in fixing main dealer cock ups on corrado's its mainly the age and rarity of them. this is because many of the technicians nowadays have never worked on one so don't know the common faults, habits etc. and because the relative rarity of them, it means that when you take yours into a dealer you run the risk of the guy working on it scratching his head and picking up a manual because he's never worked on one before!
i'd say reputable specialist for work and main dealer for some parts.

Hmmmm, now I know why you are always skint ;)

I think dealer stamps can be a bit of a waste of time.... If i was selling my car (which has always gone to a decent specialist) and the buyer was dubious about it having no stamps, i'd tell him the dealers are sh1t and i don't go to them, as i love my car too much etc... If he was into cars he'd undersrans, and thats the sort of person i'd want to sell my car too! Likewise with buying, i'd be more worried about a car that had full VAG history, as i know how much they feck it up (through personal experiece, eg wrong spark plugs ::) )

good one!! lol ;D
