Mine does the same. Sounds like its buggered tbh. Im going to get mine replaced when i get a new alternator pulley and belt fitted.

Sorry if this is an old thread but I did use the search button

I have this problem on a 2002 MK4 GT TDI 150, did not do it before now it moves about and makes a strange squeeking sound every few seconds. Is this also normal or is a new tensioner required ?

Thanks and sorry for highjack but same question I had so thought so need for new thread ;)

If it come and goes when you turn the AC on and off its the AC compressor clutch pulley thats FUBAR!!

No def not the air con, does it all the time although more so when the car is cold. Almost sounds like it is at the bottom of the engine ? What could that be ? Just had a rebuild so I am thinking more one of the aux components I.e air con, power steering etc  :undecided:

does not get worse when full lock on steering either an almost goes completely once engine warm. Hmmm
