After reading this thread (http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/254502.aspx) and with a mod planned for the end of the month I purchased a 3 button keyfob
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y276/Rhyso/IMG_1852.jpg)
Swapped the top half of my key over and paired the new remote to the car
End result - middle button now unlocks the boot but not the rest of the car  It will then re-lock the boot after you've closed it so you got to be careful not to leave your keys in there
If you want to do the same read the thread i posted as it may NOT work depending on the year of your car

Where did you get the new one from bud?

Had it within 2 days of buying it and it worked straight away - its brand spanking new too so I might buy another for a spare

all you have to do is sync the keyfob to the car either via the door lock method or vagcom.
The transponder for the immobiliser is in the top half of the key behind the VW badge which you swap onto the new remote

That will only unlock / lock the car - it does NOT program the immobiliser chip

guys read the links but if you only have 1 key how do you program it.
-
no point me getting one unless I can rig it up to the 3rd button on my alarm remote
-
I bought one but I can't get it cut. I took it to timpsons but the guy said it's locked and he won't cut it. If the immobiliser chip isn't in it will it be a problem I'm only gonna use it for a spare I've only got one key.
