Hay all
Just on way back from my mates and i could here a wind noise coming from the passenger door, thought he had not closed it right so waited till i got off the motorway and saw it was the window that was down about 10mm so pushed button . . . . no movement but could here the motor trying so thought must be frozen.
So waited till i got back home went round tried the window . . . . . sounds but no movement. so i put my hands ether side and lifted the glass in to place thought well it wasn’t frozen so tried to open window still nothing.
So i am going to guess it the window regular. It hasn’t dropped it just wouldn’t move. Taped it up anyways better safe then having to clean up loads of glass lol
Any advice anyone.
and not taking it to vw because they well have my pants down lol is it a easy fix ?
Thanks

Two options mate. Either the window regulator fixing kit, which I think is a ballache to fit, but is alot cheaper than replacing the whole part.

deffo sounds like window reg, wouldnt bother with buying another door as you may get one with old w@nky plastic reg clips and it go again...lol , get the metal clip kit for £20-£30 and spent an hour doing diy... its easy and saves you £££'s
done loads of my own and for other peeps, a worth while mod for car security and not p!ssing you off at a worser than worse time... (cause it wont happen when you put you car in your garage etc... it will alwayshappen when your out / going somewhere!!
-
welcome to the club mate
One thing, have you tried winding the glass all the way up on the button? Might have just come off the clips...
The repair kit is about £35 each, did both of mine last winter

i can here the motor its just not connected
-
Just buy another one £35 and fit it yourself, simple job.

All the cables will have wrapped around the motor and you will NEVER get it apart. I got my repair kit from the dealer (think it cost me £38) fitted it myself and it wasn't tht bad. There is a step by step guide on here somewhere (will see if I can find it). and I am by no means mechanically minded!!! Just remember when you do "finally" get your door panels off, leave the metal retaining clip/bar on the repair kit when fitting as it holds off all the tension and makes it easier to fit!!!

I got mine from the dealers & I found my post on here from when mine broke & i paid £36.50 + vat. As soon as I told the guy at the parts desk that my window had dropped he said "ah, you'll be needing the repair kit". It's a known fault with the mk4's.

Its not too bad mate, as said its a known fault so if your not handy with a spanner, your local garage should be able to sort you out. Dealers said they hold the stock as its a regular request.

oks had the door apart today to sort out my window and . . . . . mechanism fine, motor fine, clips FINE ! And the new metals one s not the old plastic ones, looks like my car was that iced up it just pulled the window down but for got to take the window with it lol so a well wasted £41.00.
Even low the parts on the runners were fine i changed the rubber part which the window sits in and the bolt and small metal part which you tighten up.
Window now working great goes up . . . and down
