Title: Head Gasket

I have just found out that i need a head gasket :(... I knew it was either head gasket or turbo from the white smoke (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=146491.0) but was hoping it was turbo so i can upgrade!!

ne way to get to the point, just wanted to know if there's anything i can do to turn this round to my advantage, anything i can upgrade while the Head is off?.. Its an AUM btw

Loads.. depends what cash you have and what your goal is.

You can do the whole valve train and whack schrick cams in there then get it ported and polished if you really want to push the boat out while the head is off

How much would that be then, looking to spend around 800 max

I wouldn't bother then mate to be honest. I think the cams alone are about the 1500 quid mark. To do the whole valve train probably about the same again. You might get someone to give it a port and polish within your budget.. but to really get the best use from any of those mods you want to be aiming for big power from some huge turbo, so you'd need to do bottom end too... gearbox, diff, clutch, probably axles, brakes...and on and on and on.

You could spend that dollar on something better if you're after more performance - headwork alone is a bit oldskool and doesn't give massive gains on our engines.

thanks for the advice topher, its jus annoying spending all that cash on ur car knowing theres no performance gains
