Title: Loose handbrake lever?
Post by: buzzkip on 05 March 2010, 08:12
Hi all,

I've got up this morning and my handbrake lever is loose. When I release the loose hand brake, the handbrake itself is still on so my car can't move.

Obviously because of the cold, but how can I resole this fast?

Thank you

You mean the rear brakes are stuck on?

Either try pulling away and give it more revs than normal, or take the rear wheels off and give the brakes a tap with a hammer

I left the engine running for a bit and then the cable went tight again after about 10 minutes

sounds like the cables are freezing up! if it does it again, look at your rear calipers. if you see the cable is still tight when handbrake released, you know its the cable(s) if the cables all floppy and handbrake mech on caliper is still tight, its the callipers!

if the boot on the end of the cable splits, moisture can get into the cable. then when it gets frosty your handbrake sticks on :)
