Title: s/s manifold
Post by: sk8boy73 on 04 March 2010, 11:48
hello people
i have a s/s manifold for a mk2 16v, will this fit my mk3 16v?
also when you fit a s/s manifold do you need a solid front engine mount?
cheers
john

I am 99% that will not fit.

the mk2 16v was a 1.8 mate, the mk3 a 2.0 obviously, dont think the port sizes or the spacing are the same. might be wrong, but im sure they are different.

check gsf for both parts oem, if the part number is the same, the part is the same...

The Mk2 16v manifold will phsically fit onto the MK3 ABF head, spacings are the same not 100% sure on the port sizes but they will be close enough if not the same.
The problem you will have is the MK3 ABF engine has a taller block (18 or 21mm I think) so the manifold wont be high enough and will in most cases foul on the bottom of the bulkhead. The end fitting on the manifold will also be wrong to mate up to your cat.
There are various ways to make it fit (change the end fitting, add some extra tube in, modify your bulkhead, also I have read some talk of cutting down the rear engine mount to angle the engine backwards slightly).
Most st/st manifolds don't have a flexi built in so you stand the chance of cracking them which is why some people use solid front engine mounts to reduce the engine movement to help prevent cracking.

Certainty not worth all that time and effort thrown at it.
