Title: ignition probs

just fitted new barrel all fine untill it fires up, it starts thens dies out, are the barrels chip coded or something? on first or second stage turn before ignition, on the dash display it said ' IN 02 ', cnt emember if it ever done that before.

In02 is service due, 1995 on car had coded keys.

have you fitted the brown thing that goes round the barrel(not sure what its called)!
this reads the chip in the key.

keys are coded to the transponder box under the dash, the ecu is then coded to the box.  open your old key and you'll see the small chip, swap this into the new key. if the new key doesnt have a space for it, you'll have to buy a blank transponder type key and get a locksmith to cut it to match the ign lock you just fitted. Local locksmith/shoe repair type place can do it, mine did me one in 2 minutes for a couple o quid.

in the short term, pop your old key inside the transponder ring and hold it there with tape, stuff up under the dash, job done.

my local locksmith cut and coded a key for mine for £15
