Evening all
can anyone give me some on advice on what is best to use to cover all the electric wiring in and around the engine bay that seems to be uncovered or protected, whatever it is that is wrapped around some of the wiring just crumbles when u touch it.
Thanks for any help

You find this with old golfs, the factory conduit gets stiff and brittle, I cut mine off with a scissors and replaced with new conduit. Try getting a scissors inside the old conduit and cut it off. Tape wires every 3". cut the new conduit along the seam and feed over the existing wires. Tape the new conduit every 3". You should be able to get this conduit at most Auto Factors. If not try the net. Its fairly reasonbly priced.
It comes in all different sizes, so get a selection and a good scissors.

newer mk2s had loom tape, though this is a little tricky to apply when engien is fitted to the car!

heres a couple pics of an abf swap I did, I used this stuff called 'twistwrap slieving' from here:

trouble is the largest size they used to do 19mm isnt on there any more, though might be worth giving them a ring. Even with the 19mm stuff it was a squeeze, I had to put some extra twist to the sieving to get it to cover the wiring properly. Took me ages but the result was worth it! Then the silly fool sold it and bought a bike. I don't know, some poeple eh
VWP also do the pvc tubing, plus other typles of loom wrap and also good quality loom tape, I can vouch for the Rayon stuff they have though I bought mine off ebay.

I bought some 'loom tape' (non-adhesive) off frost.co.uk - but not tried it yet - so no help really - hmph!

if you look on ebay you can buy hockey stick tape which is sticky on one side and material on other side, this is what i use and it give a nice factory look.
