Thinking of dropping this in the 8v at the weekend, one reason because it has added additives for engines that have done over 100k, any other recommendations would be great.

Give it a go, why not..long as it's the right grade/spec for what you want.. other than that normal regular interval good quality oil and filter changes should keep your engine healthy.
I think with these motors even beyond 100k mileage is irrelevant as long as the service history is ok,

I'd be surprised if a well maintained Golf couldn't achieve 200k+ miles - just sold my old GL - 127k miles and 16 years old - still pulling very strong.
